Im sure this has been posted before. But if we trade for Tmac, how would our salary cap look? Since we are dumping catos huge contact to Orlando. Is Van Exel a free agent?? Would it make sense to pick up Nick if we picked up Tmac??

Nick isnt a FA. He has one year remaining at a huge salary. He CAN opt out but it would be foolish for him to give up that money. But I suppose you could perhaps package our 6.9 T.E. with a high salary player to trade for him. I dont see it happening though.

GS would be a very good trading partner if we pull the trigger on the McGrady+/SF, Cat,Cato.

steve and cato for mac and howard work perfectly capwise. if they want cat too, then the only players that equal his $ would be declerq, lue, gains. so, lets say thats the deal. we have:

    yao-dec
    howard, mo, spoon
    mac-boki-ag
    jj-pike
    lue-wilks

with a logjam at PF and almost 0 depth in the backcourt, we can assume that we will be trading mo for a point.

my question is even though we want van-exel, why would they want mo? IMO murphy and claxton would be perfect, but we have nothing to offer besides mo and the TE.

Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.7 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -3.9 ppg, -6.1 rpg, and +3.3 apg.

Golden State trades: PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes)
Golden State receives: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 75 games)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 52 games)
Change in team outlook: +3.9 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and -3.3 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Golden State being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Golden State had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Then:

Houston trades: PG Steve Francis (16.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 6.2 apg in 40.4 minutes)
    C Kelvin Cato (6.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 25.3 minutes)
SG Cuttino Mobley (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.2 apg in 40.4 minutes)
Houston receives: SG Tracy McGrady (28.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.5 apg in 39.9 minutes)
PF Juwan Howard (17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.0 apg in 35.5 minutes)
PF Drew Gooden (11.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +18.1 ppg, +2.7 rpg, and -1.8 apg.

Orlando trades: SG Tracy McGrady (28.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.5 apg in 39.9 minutes)
PF Juwan Howard (17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.0 apg in 35.5 minutes)
PF Drew Gooden (11.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.0 minutes)
Orlando receives: PG Steve Francis (16.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 6.2 apg in 79 games)
    C Kelvin Cato (6.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 69 games)
SG Cuttino Mobley (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.2 apg in 80 games)
Change in team outlook: -18.1 ppg, -2.7 rpg, and +1.8 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

There were BYC players involved in this trade, so this trade is subject to the BYC provisions of the CBA. Due to Houston and Orlando being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Orlando had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    New roster:

    PG: Van Exel, Wilks
    SG: McGrady, Piatkowski
    SF: Jimmy Jackson, Nachbar
    PF: Howard, Gooden
    C: Yao Ming, someone

Not sure I want to go to war with that, to be honest.

What? I don't see why Golden State would want Mo and Spoon, when they have younger, cheaper, and quite frankly better PFs in Murphy, and Cardinal. Now they probably will be in the market for a center since they might lose Dampier and Foyle. Which is why I proposed Cato and the TE for Van Exel in another thread. Of course if this T-Mac deal goes through, we probably won't have Cato to trade.

Yeah, I just thought about some trade that might be theoretically possible if they are really desperate to get rid of van Exel...
