Good article. Would Mobley plus the trade exception work for a Van Exel deal? We could then move Steve to the 2 (if that is what we want to do). As far as the defensive problems this creates, our defense is strong enough right now to take such a hit. It's the offensive help we need.

That being said, I doubt if Les would approve a trade exception deal before this summer, given the luxury tax hit he would take.

Do it. The Rockets need Van Exel, he is a player who can hit big time shots in big time games, something the Rockets don't have on this team. Trade everyone but Steve for Van exel.

That is r****ded.... I'de trade francis before Mobley. And if you trade Steve for NVE you better get something else back other than just NVE.

Isn't Van Exel's body falling apart this year? What good is a broken down player that can't get off the IL going to be?

C'mon. You'd give up a guy like Cat (who's got at least 5-7 yrs left) to pick up NVE (who's got maybe 2)...

We'd lose one of our strongest defenders, and be left with a tiny backcourt. We're already under-sized at the 3 and the 4 (when cato's not in)...

    No Thanks.

We should just pick him up during the off-season. He'd be perfect for the Rockets. He's and experienced and proven player. That's a fact. He's a better at playing POINT GAURD than Francis.

Just take a look at Jim Jackson. He's the glue that's holding this team together. He's a veteran and because of recent events it looks like we need more leadership. Mark Jackson is doing great things for this team but he is or needs to retire next season.

Another thing.....If WE don't pick him up then I can state as a fact that either Dallas or San Antonio will.

Gaurd rotation: Francis, Mobley, Van Exel

This would compliment our Center/Forward rotation of Yao, Cato, and Mo.

I think he's gonna be free agent. If not, then trade him for boki or pike and a first/second round pick

No. Not next season. AFTER next season. It even talks about how he can't afford to pass up on his option for next season because he gave up two years of his contract going to the Mavericks. so make this thread again in a year, please.

Nice catch, jmw. I was so excited about starting a new thread that was fact-based that I guess I didn't read the article as closely as you. :)

I think I'd prefer The Glove over The Quick.

He wants to play in Houston or Dallas. His son lives in Dallas and he lives in Houston during the offseason.

San Antonio has Parker, Ward, And Ginoblili, so I dont think they would need Van Exel. Dallas already has an offensive loaded linup and the last thing they need is another defensive liability.

    Nick Van Exel???

If he wants to come to Houston, what do you want to do with him?

    some options:
    1) Trade SF, and let him lead this team
    2) Put him in No. 1 postion and move SF to No. 2
    3) Don't get him.
    4) Let him be our sixth man!!
    5) etc...

I say we pick him up in the off season somehow and sign him for a couple of seasons...he would help our bench when mark jackson leaves. Also, it would be nice not to have to get rid of any of our starting 5 (with the exception of cato) or mo taylor.

If he doesnt come to a Texas team he is going to retire, so why not try and pick him up for a bargain and have him come off the bench as an offensive spark. I doubt that MJ can keep going on for much longer and I hthink someone like Van Excel could do a lot more for the team. Again, this is assuiming we can get him for a good price.

Nick the quick still got some fire in the next couple of years, but i won't give him a 5 year contract, a mid-level except. at 2.5 mil a season will be nice.

He will probably be available for the Midlevel Exception next year anyway, so why trade for him. Also, this year we have Marc Jackson and whether you like Marc or not it would be rather redundant.
