http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=211208005 "I'm sick of losing," said Van Exel, who has asked Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe to deal him. "I'm just tired of everything right now. I think it's time for me to move on somewhere else other than here, because I'm sick of it." WHOA! Why dont we get him, he actually can score. Rudy Loves to get 30 same position players anways. Oh nevermind we suck too, so its out of the question. Even tho van exel lives here, he doesnt want to lose.
Van Exel didn't have a very good game.... he missed 10 of his 14 shots and scored just 10 points. He's probably speaking out of frustration. He also has a very heavy contract if I'm not mistaken.
He also rolled his ankle. The Rocky Mountain News quotes Van Exel as saying he requested a trade earlier in the season. This revelation could give credence to Vescey's wild 4 team trade rumor. Or, he could just be venting. http://insidedenver.com/drmn/nuggets/article/0,1299,DRMN_20_902762,00.html Van Exel: Sick of it all? By Michael BeDan, News Staff Writer CLEVELAND -- Nick Van Exel does impressions. The Denver Nuggets point guard was Roberto Duran on Saturday night -- no mas. "I'm tired of this," Van Exel said. "Tired of losing, tired of all these trades being made in four years. I'm tired of everything right now. "I think it's time for me to move on somewhere else other than here, because I'm sick of it." Van Exel did not play in the fourth quarter Saturday. He rolled his right ankle in the third quarter. He finished with 10 points in Denver's 109-99 loss to Cleveland at Gund Arena, Denver's fourth consecutive loss and eighth in nine games. Van Exel said he talked to Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe earlier in the season and asked to be traded. He all but demanded it Saturday. "My ankle is all right. I'm sick of all the losing, sick of the trading, and I ain't learned one new thing about the game of basketball in four years," Van Exel said. Nuggets coach and president Dan Issel had already left the arena after Van Exel made his statements. The team traveled to Denver late Saturday night, and Issel could not be reached for comment. Issel gave Van Exel a six-year contract before the 1999 season that could be worth as much as $77 million. The first five years are fully guaranteed and worth about $50.5 million. He will make about $10.1 million this season. Van Exel has said in the past that he felt a sense of loyalty to Issel and the organization. That sentiment has apparently vanished. Van Exel criticized the personnel moves the Nuggets have made in Van Exel?s tenure with the team, which began during the lockout-shortened 1998-1999 season after the Nuggets acquired him in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. "That's what we've been doing for four years, making great trades," Van Exel said. "Hopefully we can do one of them again." Issel is directly responsible for most of the moves Van Exel criticized, though Vandeweghe made the most recent trade, a move Van Exel objected vehemently. Vandeweghe was hired as GM late in the summer and his first major trade was a move in October that sent center Kevin Willis to Houston and brought forward/center Scott Williams to Denver. Vandeweghe said late Saturday night that he has no plans to trade Van Exel. He also said rumors that swirled last week about a potential deal that included sending Van Exel to Golden State were inaccurate. "In some ways, I'll look at it as a challenge to try to convince him otherwise," Vandeweghe said by telephone. "I want him to be here." Has he discussed trade proposals involving Van Exel? "No," Vandeweghe said. Vandeweghe confirmed that Van Exel approached him a few weeks ago, asking to be traded. "As I told Nick -- I'm not looking to trade Nick Van Exel," Vandeweghe said. "Nick's a competitor. Anybody who is a competitor doesn't want to lose. He wants to win every single game. He is frustrated, and I understand that." Some of Van Exel's teammates said Van Exel was simply venting. "He is frustrated right now, as we all are," center Raef LaFrentz said. "It's a bad part of the season when you lose four in a row on the road. If that's the way he feels, that's his prerogative. "Nick's like that. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He's passionate about it. He's a competitor." Nuggets forward George McCloud echoed LaFrentz. "We all know the real Nick," McCloud said. "(The public) gets the Nick that's mad that we lost (seven) of our last (eight) games. You're not getting the Nick that supports everyone. I just think it's more his emotions running deep right now. If our record was above .500, none of this would be talked about." But the Nuggets have never finished above .500 since Van Exel arrived and have failed to qualify for the playoffs each year since 1995. He said there's not much anyone could do to change his mind. "I don't know," Van Exel said. "I guess make another blockbuster deal. Or, maybe, (injured power forward Antonio) McDyess, when he gets back, hopefully that will change some things." Nuggets assistant Kim Hughes said Van Exel's comments could have a lingering effect. "That could hurt," Hughes said. "We clearly have some damage control to do." Veteran guard Avery Johnson was already at it after the game Saturday. "He's just severely frustrated," Johnson said. "It's been a tough road trip, but more than a tough road trip, he probably feels it's been a tough four years for him. Obviously, knowing Nick, it's something that's been festering for a long time. But this is not really the time to go in separate directions. We need everybody. "But I've seen way worse happen, so the main thing is we'll just get back to work." The question then is whether Van Exel will join them. He says he will. "I'm going to play hard," he said. "I'm not going to let them down. As long as I'm putting on this uniform, I'm going to keep playing hard. I just want to win, man. That's the bottom line. I don't see it happening. I don't see it happening. It's just a buildup of frustration for some years."
I doubt he'd be traded to anyone in the West, aside from Seattle. I could see him going to Orlando or New York though.
I wouldn't call Van Exel a spoiled athlete who doesn't know how to win. He was the key reason the Lakers were a playoff team prior to getting Shaq. Remember Van Exel was a Reggie Miller clone in the playoffs hitting big shots. Van Exel actually played harder and smarter AFTER getting his big 70+ million dollar contract. I respect this in a way, because when the team is losing and a player doesn't say anything then people say he doesn't care about winning. But when he gets frustrated and speaks his mind people call him spoiled. Van Exel and McDyess aren't the reason the Nuggets aren't a playoff team, injuries and Denver management is.
Here's a trade I know Nugzfan and Nuggets4, etc will love. Especially since it is so realistic Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Denver Houston trades: Moochie Norris $3,600,000 to Denver Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Denver TOTAL: $14,648,000 Denver trades: Nick Van Exel $9,093,750 to Houston Denver trades: Raef LaFrentz $3,755,142 to Houston TOTAL: $12,848,892 TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Denver being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Denver had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Houston would also receive a trade exception of $1,799,108 with this trade. This would have to be used within one calendar year from the date of this trade. Be aware that this exception will be extinguished if the team which possesses it falls below the cap by the combined amount of the exceptions it currently possesses.
Quit being so greedy JayZ... Denver trades: Nick Van Exel $9,093,750 to Houston TOTAL: $9,093,750 Houston trades: Glen Rice $8,800,000 to Denver TOTAL: $8,800,000 TRADE ACCEPTED Denver does this because they need veteran leadership at SF and also a player that's excellent at passing the ball off the rim to his big men (or PG's in Houston's case)...
NVE has been a malcontent throughout his career so this type of stuff from him isn't new. In fact I think he's already been fined two or three times this year for ripping officials or teammates or something.
<a href="http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2001/1210/1293236.html">"He hasn't told me that he wants to be traded," Issel said. "When he tells me he wants to be traded, then I will talk to him."</a> <b>F**K YOU ISSEL!!!! </b> I'm sick of this from my team. Get rid of anyone and everyone with no fire or desire to win. Bye Issel. Bye Raef. Cheaney, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Dice right now. Give me some players that want to win, that want to sack up, that will give their all EVERY NIGHT like Nick. I don't blame him for wanting to leave. Welcome to the world of a Nugs fan Nick. Only we've put up wiht it for a decade, not just 4 years. Timing, It's nice to see you're consistent. As with all your comments involving the Nuggets, don't let facts interfere with your statements. They just get in the way of your arguments.
I never thought Id have to say this to a Nuggets fan, but dont rip on Dice. He's a great, underappreciated PF in my opinion. Does he play uninspiring bball when healthy??
im w/ n4...unless we get a deal like that portland one i say *** it and start over. trade nve and dice for top picks...trade raef for a nice swing man (not ww...i said nice ) wed suck but have a nice future.
You might have to. I read an article a few days ago that quoted McDyess as saying, if Van Exel is traded, then he wouldn't resign with the Nuggets. Denver's management needs to be very careful with what moves they make, or they could be rebuilding the whole team all over again.
Jay-Z, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with Dice on my team, however, I don't htink he has the mentality to be the leader this team needs. I don't know if you guys heard about this, but when we signed him from Phoenix, he cried because he was worried he was going to make Kidd, Cloud and Chapman upset at him. He is kind of like a little boy. We saw small steps last year of him taking more of a leadership role and getting more vocal, but he still has a long way to go. Hottoddie, I'm not worried about that. We have 1.5 years before that's a problem. Dice's mind changes every few months. Besides, maybe we can convince Jason Kidd to come here instead of the other way around.
