Just got a new girlfriend three weeks ago, and I already bought her a $25 silver necklace with a silver heart on the end for Valentine's day. What I'm wondering is, what else should I get, or should I get anything else? I think there are good arguments for getting any combination of flowers, chocolates, and/or a card. However, we have only been together for about three weeks, and we're in college (aka poor). This is hardly anything I'm killing myself over, honestly, but I've barely posted at all lately and thought it might be entertaining to get you guys' input.
i hear that chicks are funny about not getting cards. don't just sign the card though. only three weeks... and a college student... that's enough stuff.
If you have some cash lying around, I suggest a build-a-bear. Of course, you have to be REALLY secure in your manhood to even walk into that place, but chicks really dig those things...
Get flowers. Flowers are always the minimum requirement. On a side note, you shouldn't have gotten her a $25 necklace though. Good luck!
Get the girl a card. It doesn't have to be sappy or whatever, but be sure to put in something semi-personal other than "Happy Valentines Day From Drexlerfan." We eat that s*** up...... Impressed that you're already working on this rather than running around on Friday!!!
Yeah, the thing is when I thought Valentine's Day, a necklace was the first thing that happened to come to my mind. Of course I immediately thought "that might be too much," so I asked several people, and opinions were very much divided. Since they weren't helping any I figured I'd just go with my gut. We'll see how it goes.
What is a build-a-bear and where do you get them? My assumption is that has something to do with lingerie. Am I incorrect?
Nah...build-a-bear is a store in malls where you build your own teddy bear. First you pick out an unstuffed teddy bear which range anywhere from $10-$25, Then, you take it to get stuffed (the only thing there that's free). Usually it's kids that do this, so the employee has them go through this whole act of jumping up and down and kissing the bear and all that good stuff. The stuffing part is actually pretty cool. You press on this pedal and it shoots the stuffing into the bear.... THEN, it's on to the real money making part, the accessories. You can get ANYTHING to put on your bear. Cowboy clothes, sports clothes, firefighting uniform, police uniform, jeans, shoes, raincoat, skateboard, surfboard....you can even get a little couch for your bear to sit on. There's also an accessory where you can record your own sound to put into the bear and play. All in all, you can EASILY spend $50 on one bear...Pure genius...the place is always packed when I walk by. It's one of those, "Damn, why didn't I think of that?" type things. Their website is http://www.buildabear.com
i'm thinking 3 weeks equals roses... but never, ever underestimate the heart of chocolate covered strawberries.
I'm taking my girl to the Lakers-Rockets game as a Valentine's present!! Then we'll go to dinner someplace swank on Saturday for dinner. My new favorite place in houton for dinner is Masraff's on South Post Oak Lane. www.masraffs.com Not for the light hitters though! But for a girl that wants a Rocket game for Valentine's, she deserves the best!
If your in High School the necklace is enough. If you over 21 and work for a living, I'd add dinner out. If your over 25 and doing all right financially, I'd add flowers and dinner. Have the flowers sent to her workplace. It scores on the envy factor.
depends on whether or not you're interested in her or not. i'm thinking if she's even remotely interested in you, she might be disappointed with white roses...or yellow roses...too busy wondering what it communicates on a day where red everything is the norm.
if you really want to surprise her, don't do anything on V-day. don't mention any plans and just act like it's another day. nothing special. then, the very next day, do all the stuff you were gonna do anyways on V-day. trust me, when you do something that she never saw coming, it'll be ingrained in her mind you're not like every other dude who gets stupid over this r****ded "holiday". actually, every holiday that promotes giving gifts is pretty much whack IMO. and by the way, i don't think that necklace was a good idea either.
macalu, have you actually tried this yourself? How were able to withstand all the complaining? Did doing all the Valentine's stuff the next day look like it was planned all along or like a feeble attempt to make good on a past screw-up?
I am SOOOOOOO glad that I decided to end things with the non-committed girl that I have been seeing. Before making that decision, I was worried about what to do for Valentine's Day.
That place looks good. I am definitely going to check it out when I come down to Houston in a couple of weeks.
