In celebration of our 2nd wedding anniversary, I planned to take my wife to South Padre Island to celebrate and enjoy ourselves. I chose SPI because my wife said she wanted somewhere we could drive (Galvestin is our of the picture). Unfortunate I did not do my research well and early enough to know that the island is an 8.5 hours driver from Houston (ouch). Now I am not too enthused about the South Padre Island idea. Now I want to try a different spot. I live in Houston and I would like to hear your advice on which spots or cities will be great for us to try. We plan to leave Houston Friday afternoon to return Monday afternoon. I will continue my internet search but will gladly like to hear your kind advise. Thanks in advance.
The Riverwalk in San Antonio is a nice place for couples. Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbaun are close by.
Don't know if there is enough time for you to work a deal Fegwu, but I love this site. Used it several times and have never had a problem. Rented places in New Orleans, Paris, Maine. http://cyberrentals.com/TX/TX.html
I'd try Port Royal near Aransas Pass. I also just got back from Fort Morgan, Alabama, where we stayed at The Beach Club. We made it in 7.5 hours. A long drive, but you really feel like you're going on vacation when you go out of state.
I think you might be mistaken about the distance. From downtown Houston to downtown Corpus Christi is only 220 miles. Maybe 4 hrs. I don't know where on South Padre Isl you want to be but should it be much further? The last time I went was 20+ yrs ago and I remember South Padre Island has many long stretches of beaches and one beach is just as good as others, am I wrong? I am going this weekend and this is the link I use in my research: http://www.corpuschristi-tx-cvb.org/index.htm
concan on the frio river is always a good time. as is s. padre. i just got back from spending the 4th of july weekend there and i had a blast.
We plan to visit 1) CC North Beach. 2) any beach on S Padre. 3) the USS Lexington 4) CC Botanical garden. 5) Eat at some places near the marina or bay front. Do you have any tips or other suggestions?
The distance is quite accurate. I used an online drive direction finder to calculate the distance. Also see the map of Texas for confirmation. I tried the other links but at least two of them do not have availability for the days and specs I want. The Corpus Christi idea sounds entizing. I am checking out the link you provided. Did you go with a regular hotel or a resort deal?
Thanks guys for the tips. Looks like this CC deal will do. SWTsig, since have experience of the area, where would you suggest for us to stay? Thanks.
there is only one place in Concan: Garner State Park! I was there on Easter weekend for a camping trip and it was amazing even during the off-season. during the summer weekends, the place is packed(call ahead to check availability) and there is a dance at the pavillion each night. definitely a great time for the whole fam
I would suggest you look at the distance again using Mapquest or Yahoo map. I booked room at Clarion Hotel myself thru Orbitz. This one is 3 star for as little as $52 a night (differs on diff nights) . For me it is centrally located where I can go to many different places. http://www.orbitz.com/App/ViewHotelDetails?z=c3dj&r=fz&lastPage=interstitial I am sure you can find many other choices.
That is real interesting. Mapquest to my hotel at 5224 IH 37 CORPUS CHRISTI TX not far from downtown Corpus Christi is only 216 miles, 4:23 hr. http://www.mapquest.com/directions/...51-400c2552&aid=40eb2e5b-0012f-04251-400c2552
Hmm, I see the discrepancy. When you guys look up South Padre Island, it is 100+ miles south of Corpus Christi. When I talked about Padre Island, I think about the northern end which is just East of Corpus Christi.
