I can see him become our starter PG at the end of the season! I thought JVG loves defence, V-span brings the defence and energy to the team! man just think about all the past games especially the game against spurs if JVG put V-span on udrih on second lineup. we should have won easily. I remember long time ago there is a thread saying that V-span is the missing piece. I can't agree more! Rox best rotation: Yao (Mutombo) Hayes (Novak) Battier (Snyder) T-mac (Bonzi) Rafer (V-span)
he said if he plays well.....so I hope he does not panick and take him out if vspan has a to or his shot is off.
I AGREE! V Span showed he can bring: 1) Energy 2) Open shots after kickouts from penetrating to the basket 3) Better ballhandling than Head, and allowing Head to play the 2 4) Potential to come up with steals with his quickness Let's pray he doesn't turn the ball over, which he'll only improve on with PT.
He needs some time in the game, and he will learn. My impression is that he is relatively quicker learner.
In games we lost, we have no energy in the 4th quarter, yao gets tired and t-mac's shot is off, but we keep going to them or take a quick shot cos we got nothing else. Vspan can come off the bench and energize the team. I hope Bonzi gets some mins soon, we really, really need a 3rd proven scorer. He's the one we should drive to the basket and get some points at the line. Apart from Yao and tmac, the rest of the team don't get any free throughs. We need something else other then yao's post up and tmac shot off th dribble
Keeping in mind that the vast majority of NBA teams use a 9 man or less rotation, I doubt V-span will get get much playing time at the end of the year IF everyone is healthy. The only way I see V-Span getting significant PT and being part of the 9 man rotation is if he plays so well during this period when Synder is injured (or later when someone else is injured) or in practice and thus securing his spot. The other possibility thought more remote is that, Wells, Head, Snyder or Alston plays so poorly that they effectively demote themselves from the rotation. This possibility is more remote because, JVG has shown in the past that he is rather stubborn when it comes to sticking with his guys and his rotation. Furthermore the horrid degree to which one of these players must perform to remove themselves from the rotation is unlikely. With this in mind, I'm guessing the rotation by the end of the year assuming everyone is healthy is Yao, Hayes, Battier, Tmac, Alston as the starters and Wells, Head, Snyder, Juwon or Padgett from the bench
I agree with most of it but How badly do these two have to play before reaching the standard of demoting themself from the rotation?
surprisingly, Vspan DIDNOT play PG today.. he didn't run the offense even once!! for some reason, JVG played him the 2 guard with Luther Head running the point... so I cant quite agree that JVG has "finally understood" and that Vspan will have the opportunity to be our "backup PG"..
Thats a great question and unfortunately one I'm not sure has a good answer. Good or Bad, JVG has shown in the past that he is stubbornly loyal to his players in the rotation; ie Bowen, Juwon, Ward, Cato etc. In some cases this has worked out and in others it hasnt. The worst case being Bowen who manged to stay in the rotation despite his horrific offensive production; though to be fair we were injury riddled and he was only avg 10mins or so per game. Cato was a "better" case scenario as he played better as the season progress, overcoming initial lapses and problems with fouls, offensive production and defensive lapses. If i had to guess, to force JVG to demote a player from the rotation, that player would not only have to play/practice very poorly but exhibit less effort both on the court and in learning his assignment; in addition to V-span exhibiting harder effort and more production and understanding of the system.
another injury to force JVG to use a rookie a la head from last season. Do you guys think that if there were no injuries JVG would have even used head? Im no JVG hater but im starting to wonder if not for our injuries head would have never become a rotational player and v-span would still be warming the bench
I was at the game tonight. I loved how V-Span played. The only thing I didn't like was that he was afraid to shoot on offense when he's open. Hopefully that was just because he was nervous that he'd get taken out, but if the Knicks wanted to they could've just stopped playing d on him. Well not totally but they could've stayed way off of him. I think as he continues to get more minutes he'll stop being afraid to shoot. Even if he isn't a great shooter you gotta shoot every once and a while when your open or teams won't have to guard you. I loved his hustle though tonight. He should be a solid backup.
I watched the game too... I don't know if anyone feels the same way, but how worked up can we get about a 13 minute, 0 pt, 1 ast, 1 TO game? Sure he played with some energy, but the performance was far from game changing...
HUH? It certainly was game changing..... He stopped a 2 on 1 fast break when the Knicks were on the comeback. He stopped Stephon Marbury by taking a charge and closed the lane off. He nearly got a steal on a cross court pass, disrupting the Knicks possession. He dove for a ball along with Battier to cause a jump ball. V-Span played a game changing role in tonight's game..... His stats may not show it, but he energized the team and helped them hold off the Knicks...... Even JVG noticed....SHOCKING !!! DD
