There is one video of him running thru the building w the AK47 in his hand, all caught on tape w people just standing around. Second video is a police dispatch. http://www.dailytexanonline.com/content/utpd-releases-footage-september-campus-shooting

WTF...that's disturbing...no one really does anything. The employees don't even react, especially the guard.
Who would think it's real? What's more likely to happen in your mind, a kid running around with an actual ak47 not firing and just running through, or a kid most likely involved in some weird prank/skit. THe way he ran through didn't really give anyone time to think about the situation, much less react to it. I can honestly probably say, if I saw someone running around the library with what appears to be an ak47, I probably wouldn't think that's a real gun. Even if it were real in their minds, how would they react? Run away? He already left the area in which they were just in. To them, they were in no immediate danger.
So weird. And to think I just graduated from UT in May. PCL is never gonna seem the same to me. Thank God he didn't kill anyone else but sad to see him take his own life. Hard to imagine what in the world was going through his head.
Some of your guys pretend like you know how you would act in that situation. Most of them could barely tell what was going on. If I saw something like that I would be stunned at first. Its a freaking ak 47... Have most of you even seen a gun that caliber in real life. Its not natural for it to be part of our daily lives. My head would barely be making sense of it. However, a place like mexico, you would know to quickly react to that. I wonder if that was the gun mans intention or if he really intended to kill people
after thinking it through. wouldnt the cops at least be called after you realize what is happening. at some point it doesnt matter if its a prank or not, this is something that you report. im sure someone had to call the cops
Did they ever figure out why this happened? Was he just depressed or what? If he just wanted to kill himself Why did he choose to do it with an AK-47 running through a campus library?
i think the only person that tried to pursue the guy was a ROTC member who was outside when he was shooting. I don't know the exact timeline, but I believe some sort of UTPD or someone stopped the ROTC member from pursuing him into the PCL. Please correct any details because I am just winging this from my likely faulty memory.
I don't care if they knew it was real or not. The guard up there should lose his job unless there's footage of him getting off his backside. Someone came in running wearing a ski mask, I'm assuming those are metal detectors?, and no one ...most importantly the guard, (unless again he later got off his backside to at least see what was going on) even batted an eye. I'm pretty sure that if you see someone in a black ski mask running and happen to see he is carrying what looks like a weapon on the UT campus or any other campus these days, you shouldn't "assume it's a prank." If you're the guard on duty, you check it out, if you're someone else, better safe than sorry, whatever your decision.
I don't know, we had a guy here who saw a bunch of APC's on campus but wanted to go to class anyway. After all, they weren't tanks... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5601050&postcount=82
In all fairness, if you were an elderly library security guard, would you go chasing after a guy with an AK-47?
In all seriousness, since when have security guards been a real deterrent to violence? Most security guards you see in malls, at work, parking lots, libraries, etc. are either out of shape or old. They're only there for light crime such as theft and checking IDs. No way in hell would I expect any of them to take on a guy with an AK-47.
