I know UT Cockrell is typically ranked higher, but A&M has "dat network" so which school is better for engineering IYHO?
This will end well. Either would be an excellent choice. One's a little more country, one's a little more Rock N Roll.
UT has a: better campus Austin is about 50x the city that College Station is Bigger party school Better sports teams Girls are hotter Not hickville but I am biased.
Depends on the engineering. Petroleum is good at both schools, Chem E, EE I'd give a slight advantage to UT BME at UT is growing like whoa, BioE at A&M focuses more biomech I graduated BME in 2006, and half my graduating class are in med school/residency, so we were pretty much not the norm, but from what I've been hearing from alumni channels that more people are going into the industry. Bottom line, both schools have excellent engineering schools, maybe one dept slightly better than the other, so it's all based on personal preference.
I'd say go to the one that you'd prefer more from a social or proximity perspective. In terms of education and opportunity, it's basically a wash. I definitely wouldn't go to one over the other because their <insert type of engineering> department is rated two spots higher in US News or something.
This sums it up pretty well -- Texas has the clear advantage in location, sports, eye candy, reputation/name recognition, party scene. If you enjoy wearing overalls, tearing up a deserted field in your truck, and constantly trying to bring down "the man" (in this case, Texas) then A&M's for you.
And as evidenced by the above post, if you enjoy the company of douchebags, Texas is the school for you.
From an engineer that graduated from a different school, it's Texas by a fair margin. Texas A&M's Engineering is just good. Texas' is great. The Aggie alumni network is nice if you need it, but it seems to me that it just gives average engineers more opportunities. Good engineers will get the opportunities without it.
Good Lord man. College Station is a podunk town in the middle of nowhere with no culture or diversity. Why the hell would you want to go there if you got into Texas and can spend the next four years in Austin? *please note, I got my EE degree and MBA from UT
I'm not so sure that UT-Austin branch wins in the co-ed department anymore. A&M shows very strong, and UT has become a haven for the, let's just say, "more scholarly" types of late (especially post "top 10% rule"). More Asians at UT, if that's your thing.
I get what you mean, but this just sounds funny. I'm imagining the OP at A&M like "there are only 24,000 girls here...WHY DIDN'T I GO TO UT??? I NEED THAT EXTRA 5K!!!!" and a "lol" at the poster above touting austin's diversity; compared to college station ok, I'll grant you that
