This is disgusting. Absolutely sickening. Another criminal charge surrounding the UT athletic program is not what Mack wants after having to deal with the humiliating football graduation rates that UT is sporting. But hey, they backed into a BCS bowl with Cal's "close win", so all is good on the 40 acres, don't mind the mess! http://www.statesman.com/horns/cont..._recruit_collins_indicted_on_rape_charge.html Former recruit Collins indicted on rape charge By John Bridges | Friday, December 17, 2004, 09:07 AM Former Longhorn recruit Chris Collins — at least one would presume that he’s a former recruit at this point — was indicted Thursday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a 12-year-old who says she was raped at a party by Collins and another former football player for Texas High in Texarkana, the Texarkana Gazette reported Friday. Before news of the May 23 incident surfaced just before high-school football season, Collins was considered an elite prospect at linebacker and had committed to play for Texas. He did not play this fall, and the newspaper said the Texarkana school district wouldn’t confirm whether he was even enrolled in school.
He's disgusted that this story was around all day and he didn't post this story until after 6 (central) on Friday when most people (in the sane world - unlike mine) have left work. Indeed, on a Friday afternoon this could have been a goldmine of inter-school barbs. On Friday night? not so much.
A 12-year old girl raped. This is a shame. Am I surprised that Mack would recruit this type of player? Of course not. Just take a look at the criminal and academic histories of UT's football team. It's atrocious. Heck, their best player, Cedric Benson, was sitting in a jail cell before the season started. No surprise at all. Win at all costs.
I enjoy spreading the truth about what has become of some of the top programs in major college athletics. If you recruit criminals and don't focus on academics, you can win games. The concept of the student-athlete is going down the toilet. Oski, for you, this development will help to solidify A&M's pretty commanding lead over UT in football recruiting this year.
He verballed before the incident even happened. Yet this is somehow the University's fault? He probably wouldn't have seen the campus even before the official indictment, and now he definitely will not. He was the best linebacker in Texas and one of the best in the country...Texas was definitely not the only program after him. Your team from above the Red River recruited him, even. I feel for the girl, but from everything I've heard, Collins is a good kid who was lied to. I wish both the best and hope they can get their lives straightened out after this terrible, terrible tragedy. BTW, very classy talking about recruiting rankings(Are you kidding me?) in a thread about rape. If you knew anything about how those rankings worked, you would know that any time a team has twice as many recruits(scholarships), they have a huge advantage(Note the average stars for a better comparison). Clearly you don't, and I can't believed you have dragged me into talking about recruiting in this thread.
A$M's average player ranking is 3 *. That is lower than many teams below them who have fewer but higher ranked prospects. Also, A$M is pretty much finished with their 23 commits. Most teams have not finished their recruiting as the higher ranked prospects generally do not make a decision until the end. UT, OU, Florida, Miami, etc., etc. all have some 5 * players that are still on their list which will make big difference in the final rankings.
Not to dismiss what happened in any way, shape, or form, but why is a 12 year old at a High School party?
You've never heard the Texarkana motto? "If they're old enough to crawl, they're in the right position."
am i the only person here wondering what a 12 year old girl was doing at a party? and bigtexxx it is disgusting that a 12 year old girl got raped by 2 men...what the hell does it have to do with mack brown and the texas program graduation rate?
