Is there really that much of a difference between business honors and the regular business program. How are the differences in class size, quality of teachers, amount of work, job opportunities, classes, projects, etc. Is business honors that big a deal or is it just a little more selective. Do recruiters really look at the honors program with a lot more prestige? Would it help much getting into graduate school. Any comments would be helpful

Also on Plan II, what are your opinions on it, how are the classes, teachers, students, class size, and other information.

    Thanks

There's another thread on this also you might want to search for (try the Search Option for "Business Honors") from a couple of months back.

    My experience was this:

Class Size: BHP is definitely much smaller and students know each other better

Quality of Teachers: I didn't think too highly of the BHP profs as a whole. There were some really good ones, and some really bad ones.

Amount of Work: Definitely more work -- tons of group work, though, which is (at least to me) a bit more enjoyable, especially when the other people are committed to doing something, which is mostly the case in BHP.

Job Opportunities -- It definitely does help to have that degree.

I'm not sure you learn much more except for the specialized classes (we had an MSC class which other students didn't get), but you do get more group-experiences. You also do miss out on some of the basics they teach in other classes (or at least, our class did, but that was the class of '98, so this may be out of date). I believe it is substantially more selective as well, but the general business school has also gotten more selective over the last several years.

I'm in UT Biz right now...personally i think i got screwed out of BHP...but that's no matter...

I really don't think there's that much difference...classes are smaller...but less classes are offered, so ease of schedule isn't there...

Don't really know how recruiters look upon it...i'm sure it's looked upon favorably, but can't be too important if ur GPA is low

only perk is u get into HBA (honors business association) and i always dig clubs and orgos if ur that type of person...

all in all, it's an accomplishment getting into the business school first of all (with UT upping up the admissions), but BHP probably gives u slight edge with recruiters...and that alone goes a long way.

Hm...one of my friends got a 1200 flat and didn't get in...then again he was only in the top quarter in our high school. One of my other friends got a 1280 in the top 10% of class and got in....

So if ur grades are kickass...u should get in with a 12-something....if ur grades are a tad suspect...prolly 1300 to wrap it up.

Biz honors need at least 1420-1450 to get considered i think...not really sure.

Well Business Honors is extremely hard to get in. The entering class had an average SAT score around 1500 and was in the top 1% of their class. They also look at leadership and other things. They said that if they had just looked at class rank you would have to be in the top .02 percent. (I'm not kidding) and have a 1500 SAT.
Business School is not as hard, just be in top 10%, preferably top 5% and have 1400 on SAT
Plan II you probably need top 5% and 1400

You probably wouldn't get into Business Honors, but you have a good chance of getting into the Business school. It gets harder every year though, so don't count on my word. At least you're automatically in.
