How on earth did he not deserve a spot on the 23 man roster. Gomez/Buddle, two guys with like 4 combined National Apps. get the nod over him. He has been nothing but solid for this team, Bob Bradley is going into South Africa with a young, inexperienced front line and it could blow up in his face. Ching has the set-up ability of a strong mid-fielder but can also finish when he gets the chance. A list of Altidore, Buddle, Findley, and Gomez has me uneasy outside of Jozy. Buddle had his first App. in 7 YEARS last night vs. Czech Rep. and has backdoored his way onto this team because he has played well this year in the MLS. It is freaking MLS competition! He is about to go against England on June 12th and he will most likely be in the starting 11 because he has scored on sub-par defenses this year. Jon Terry and the likes are going to freaking own him. Sorry Brian Ching, you got screwed out of this one. Onto a positive note, congrats to Stu Holden and Ricardo Clark!
Brian is coming back from an injury and to be honest he lacks the speed we're going to need at the WC. I hope he goes as a cheerleader though.
Brian has never been a blow by you type of player, and regarless in the system the US team players, the long runs are typically made by the Mids anyways. His footwork and touch are what was needed. Buddle is a speed guy with absolutely no ball-skills, what good does that do when our fowards are not set up with the pass?
If anything, you are correct, and it was all about the injury. Perhaps he is not as well as he has led on to be. But, after seeing him in about 60 minutes of play since his return, he does not appear to be "slow" by any form of the word and last night in particular, his touch was outstanding.
I thought he would be in with his performance last night. There's a couple of things going against Ching. 1. Out of the forwards in camp, he's the worst when it comes to running at defenses. His whole game is with back to goal and in the air. They need more creativity up front and felt they needed the additional speed with Findley. 2. He's not played much in 2 months. 3. Buddle and Gomez both are on fire right now. Out of any position on the field, if you've got forwards scoring goals at the rate those 2 are, you have to keep them around. I don't disagree with you that he should have made the squad. I'm quite surprised he didn't if only for the experience he brings.
We are going to miss Ching for sure. I love the guy. He's tough as nails and physical enough to beat out good defenders. I'm sure the trainers saw something in the way he moved after the match that made them think he wouldn't be able to make a long run in the WC.
Should have been "[DYNAMO] Ching got SCREWED" in the thread title. Nonetheless, it deserves its own thread and CHING got CHING-ado.
If Ching is healthy he should be going to South Africa. End of story. I really hope Bradley is planning on starting Dempsey up top and Holden on the right. Outside of Altidore, who is still young and lacking experience himself, our forwards are severely lacking. Dempsey should be able to hold his own as a forward.
Even with his speed and stamina not quite at 100% yet, you could tell last night that team USA sorely needs his creativity, experience, knowledge and knack of being in the right place. Brian Ching definitely was one of the better Americans on the pitch last night vs. the Czechs.
They should've cut Findley instead of Ching! Findley hasn't done anything for the national team. Gomez I think deserved a spot a long time ago. This dude has been killing it for Puebla in Mexico!
I thought Rogers was the one that got hosed the most. Ching is just a similar player as Altidore, we needed contrast up front. DD
Rogers didnt get hosed, he just hasn't been as good a player w/ the nats the past couple of years. Plus as soon as Beas had a decent game yesterday-Robbie and Bedoya had no shot.
Sorry man but that's utter rubbish. Don't know how much you've watched Edson since he's been in MLS but ball skills were never his problem. I believe he is more skillfull than EJ and Charlie Davies but his problem over the past few years was he would never make the right play at the right time so that made him a very frustrating player. Playing with Donovan and Becks it seemed to click for him last season and this season is the continuation. Edson is a solid player in that he can hold the ball, has speed and ball skills and can find the net while EJ and Findley have their deficiencies in one or two of those qualities. The issue to me is Findley getting in over Chingy and that sux but from what the journos are saying, BBradley wanted as much as speed as possible and probably feels Buddle and Herc can do a decent job holding the ball up top if needed. I still would take Chingy over Findley. From what I've been told, the Dynamo players who spoke with Chingy this morning after he left for the airport said he was GUTTED at having worked so hard to come back from injury and done nothing wrong yet didnt make the team. Love ya Chingy, come back and lead us back to the MLS Cup!
We need his pace and creativity though....Donovan and Dempsey need others who can play creative soccer. DD
I'm sorry, I was in a hurry yesterday and did not explain myself properly. The point I was trying to get across is that I do not think he possesses the creativity that Ching has. You could see that against Czech very clearly that Ching makes things happen while Edson seemed timid at times. Ching is a far better passer than Buddle and I believe this team sets itself up through the pass far better than making it a one-on-one speed game.
It's more his job to get that last pass and finish it than to create. What I did see the other night was Buddle doing a great job to come back and get the ball from the mids, make the pass and move to space. He tracked back into the defensive 1/3 a few times and won the ball. Looked to me like he made good decisions, even while he wasn't getting much help from EJ. I can only wonder how much better he looks when he gets on the field at the same time as Donovan. I don't think Buddle should be your target. It's clearly Findley that took Ching's spot. I'm starting to feel a little bad for Philadelphia this weekend. Ching is going to take it out on them.
On a similar note, I think Houston's Bobby Boswell is playing at a higher level than some of the defenders on the USA 23-man roster, notably Oguchi Onyewu.
erm, okay! Considering Gooch hasn't played a match this calendar year and the Czech match was his first he wasn't half bad. He gave up a header from the player he was marking but other than that wasn't bad. (He just doesn't appear ready to start vs England but I guess we'll see in the Turkey and the Aussie matches). Maybe Boswell may have had issues w/ Marshall getting in the 30 over him but Boswell was never really in the mix for the squad as the CB options aren't the weak link in the team.
