    HOLY CRAP

I would die if that happened

I would go over there and rip whatever little hair he has left

that being said I dont think he would take the job

there are far too many external pressures from ADs, alumni and to push certain things through

for me JVG seems the type of person who is ethical and will coach the players and sit the star kid if he doesnt work hard in practice and will make sure boosters do not give cash to the kids

also it seems that he would prefer to stay in the nba than go to college

Van Gundy wants no part of the college game, specifically the politics. He won't put up with multi-millionaire pros, he's definitely not going to suck up to parents and recruits.

Van Gundy just puts too much of himself into coaching. It can't be good for his health.

He's an awsome broadcaster who doesn't seem to have sold out to the NBA ESPS/ABC/David Stern pressures.

Van Gundy is a breath of fresh air. Stay in broadcasting.

I've talked to JVG before, during his first season on ESPN. I asked him if he was gonna coach next season, and he told me he didn't know yet, and that he really enjoys being with Marc and Mike (I believe he's under contract at ESPN now). I said to him, "well, what about college?". He laughed and just gave me a definite "Nope."

So... If he's truthful, I don't think he's going to take this job.

I firmly believe that if Van Gundy were to coach college basketball he would eventually go down as greatest college coach of all time.

IMO, if he decides to coach again, it will be in the NBA. No recruiting, much bigger paychecks and he's used to the travel and knows the players

Van Gundy could make 5 million a year in the pros, no way does he go coach college for 2 million.

    definitely.

Mark Jackson would tell him, "Come on Jeff Van Gundy. You're better than that."

I agree. In college, he could recruit the exact kind of players he wanted. No need to depend on the GM to make deals grossly limited by all the CBA rules. His disciplinarian style would fit well with college kids. His defensive system would be devastating.

That said, as many other have pointed out, I don't think JVG would be able to stomach the politics.

Man, I hope JVG never goes back to coaching. Who's gonna call out Mark Jackson for all the bs he spills out? :(

Doesn't Van Gundy live in West University? If Van Gundy wanted to coach in college, he could have had the Rice job. No pressure but no money either.

Not to mention no talent. He'd be better off at UH, unless he can coach baseball.

Rice is going to have decent talent this season. They've got a really good Iranian player coming.
