I voted Korea because the last time you put up this poll, I voted Portugal. Ya but seriously, this home-field advantage is incredible... Any other year, would u say that Japan and Korea would make the 2nd round? Probably not. That being said...the most important match tonite is prolly not US-Korea, but Portugal-Poland. C'mon Poland! Get a draw!!
The Koreans are tough, fast and our defenders will have their hands full defending them. Plus they'll have a massive home field advantage. But, I still can't pick against my team, 2-1 USA.
I am going to be so damn tired in the morning. But at least my boss is a soccer nut and he will be up too so it doesn't matter. USA 3-1 McBride will score again! Reyna should play. http://worldcup.espnsoccernet.com/story?id=215291&lang=us
I start a new job tomorrow hehe, I hope first impressions arnt THAT important so I suppose I gotta put up another prediction and this one wont be too easy. Stewert in 50/50 for the game, and if you watched Portugal, Earnie won that game for us. His absence would worry me. Reyna is playing and Mathis should as well (he practiced with the first team all week) Reyna will run a much more booring looking team. they will be less dangerous and less vulnerable. I hope Friedel is in net again, he was spectacular against portugal, however i get the feeling Arena is gonna give it to Keller to keep him happy. My gut feeling tells me that Korea will win. Watching the Giants cup makes me pick us to win. I cant say we will lose, so I will submit that a low scoring draw is in order. (Korea is not capable of more than 2 goals against us) But that damn blind ignorant patriotism calls this another 3-2 shootout with the Nats triumphant. GO USA And me well making a decent impression at my new job
If he's healthy enough to play I'm gonna have to agree with ya here... 3-1 USA Guess I should brew some coffee...
the amount of noise in the stadium is incredible...it's gonna tuff for the US... and for people who regularly watch the Cup... I hate the #1 broadcasting team of Jack Edwards and the other dude....the other guy is so biased towards the US...i root for them...but honestly, I watch the coverage for the impartial commentary...kinda like cat mobley...shut ur mouth and do ur job...on the other hand...i love tommy smyth and jp or jc something...they're great! c'mon US!!! where's that agressive midfield play at??
I don't think so. Korea was dominant throughout the whole game. The ref was very good. Friedel was fantastic. Without him, USA would have lost 1:4 or something like that. I like both teams' chances to make it to the next round now.
Personally, I didn't think the ref was all that great. However, it didn't really matter though. Korea dominated possesion and had more scoring chances than US did. US is fortunate to get out with a draw. Solid game for both teams. Korea played well, but didn't capitalize on their chances, plenty of close shot opportunities, and the missed PK. US was able to survive with 1 point in a hostile environment. US might need to do a better job of possesion. This type of play will not cut it against the elite. I know they beat Portugal, but Portugal had their chance to come back and win. US needs to take out Agoos ASAP. He's contributed to 2 of the 3 US goals allowed.
Friedel rules! He made the first save on a penalty kick in the Cup so far. All they need is one more point to advance. GO USA!!!
We were very lucky to get a point. Now all we have to do is Draw against Poland and we are in..... Agoos has to go...our defense is not up to snuff against the better clubs. Also, we got content, should have made more counter attacks to keep Korea honest, but a draw is better then a loss. DaDakota
Korea should've killed us 3-1 by the way the game went. Were it not for a couple of our defenders and Friedel, we're down big early. The shot discrepancy was just horrible - almost a 3 to 1 advantage for Korea. Besides that one play to Mathis for the goal, the US did not push the ball the entire game, letting Korea dictate the tempo. That's not what is going to win soccer games - it's the soccer equivalent of the prevent defense. You have to play to win - not not to lose. Personally, I thought those subs towards the end of the game were horrible, but that may just be me. Of course, Mathis wasn't expected to be able to play the entire game anyway. If the US is tentative versus Poland like they were Korea, they could very well find themselves on the end of a big loss and out of the 2nd round. Push the tempo!
I'm actually full-Korean. However, I've never been to Korea. I have Korean parents, but was born in Houston. I rooted for Korea yesterday, because I felt they were the stronger team, and being at home... I'm a fan of both teams though. England would be my other one...
