Obviously they screwed up the Earth, so Let's make sure they don't mess with Mars Mars is the latest arena in the US-China rivalry, with both countries launching probes this month Hong Kong (CNN Business)Two years after humans last landed a probe on Mars, both the United States and China are launching missions to the red planet this month and setting up a new arena for their growing rivalry. China's Tianwen-1 blasted off around midday Thursday from Hainan Island in the country's south, while NASA's Perseverance rover is scheduled to launch on July 30. Both probes are expected to reach Mars in February 2021. @Os Trigonum @Reeko @rocketsjudoka
Seattle and Hong Kong are already screwed don't want the citizens of Mars to get shafted by Earthlings @Os Trigonum @RayRay10
I think our great republic will "win," but long term? Up in the air. The country that remains dedicated to both exploring Mars and setting up bases with the intention of having them on Mars for decades, if not longer, will truly "win." Considering what we did, or rather didn't do, after being the first and only nation to set foot on the Moon, I'm not wildly optimistic that our country will stay on Mars for the long haul. I certainly hope we do, but regardless, I'm unlikely to be around to see it. There's a caveat. If mega-billionaires from the US can figure out a way to make a profit from Mars, we could be there indefinitely, regardless of what China does. In my opinion, anyway.
If we settle Mars in the long run it won't matter which country does. Given how far Mars is I think they will eventually declare independence like in the Expanse. In a nod to Tinman we might as well let Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos settle Mars. Valles Marineris could be the next Silicon Valley.
“War” over advancement of technology and capability to get to mars is so much better for humans than war over earthly resources. Yes, maybe one day there is a war over resources on the moon or the red planet but that won’t happen for anyone of the current generation. cheers to the victor Ps. If we are to increase our chances of winning peacefully, we should not be anti-science, anti-experts, anti-talents (immigrants included)
ace! one of many immigrants that help makes the US that much better, and I'm sure he can use all the talents he can get here and around the world to achieve his goals of reaching Mars
