http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm I'm not exactly sure how Texas is 4th. We have a QB coming off a significant injury, and inconsistent RB, we lost our best defender, offensive lineman and defensive coordinator. It's better to work your way up than fear a loss from up top. 1. Southern California (45) 2. LSU (4) 3. Florida (9) 4. Texas 5. Michigan (2) 6. West Virginia 7. Wisconsin 8. Oklahoma 9. Virginia Tech 10. Ohio State 11. Louisville 12. California 13. Georgia 14. Auburn 15. Tennessee 16. Rutgers 17. UCLA 18. Penn State 19. Nebraska 20. Arkansas 21. Florida State 22. TCU 23. Boise State 24. Hawaii 25. Texas A&M
How is OU #8 with no AP or Bomar? Texas A&M seems a little underrated too. They should have a good running game this year. Maybe the best in the Big 12. I'm also worried about UT's secondary. I wonder if Nebraska can finally put it together this year. If not, when will those fans start to lose patience with Callahan.
was just about to post this as well I think Texas has a favorable schedule to make another run at the Big XII Title and possibly a MNC. I expect Colt McCoy to have just as good a season as last year and to stay healthy (word is he's added 15 lbs of muscles during the offseason to try and stay injury-free). JC is going to get more rushes this year (as opposed to sharing time with Selvin "Fumbles" Young) and will be the feature back that will probably get around 15-20 touches per game. The WR crew is just sick with Sweed, Nate Jones, Quan Cosby and a healthy Jordan Shipley. Texas is as loaded as any other team in the nation at the skill positions. The O Line is a question but the return of Dockery from his ACL injury should help - people don't realize that the OL just wasn't the same after he went down. On Defense the front is strong with anchor DTs Lokey and Okam. The LB corps could be the strongest in the Big XII with Bobino, Derry, Killebrew and Kindle. The secondary can't get any worse than last years crew- but I think that the front 4 and the new defensive coordinators (Akina and Mac Duff) blitzing schemes will take some of the pressure off of the secondary. Look for Marcus Griffin (Michael Griffin's twin brother) playing FS and Drew Kelson (switched from LB to SS) to anchor a much improved secondary. Look for Texas to be 5-0 heading into the Red River Shootout. If they win that game they could start the season 8-0 before finishing the season with tough home games against Nebraska and Tech and on the road at Okie State and aggy. Texas is shooting to win the Big XII and play for another Mythical National Championship this season. Anything less would be a disappointment.
didnt think UT was going to be that high. and USC needs a bad season this year or it may be a long time until they are knocked off that top spot. they just recruit too well year after year.
If So Cal has a loss than it will be UT vs LSU and I will pay whatever I need to psy to see that game. LSU=so much talent but is very young at certain positions. The reason they will run the table is because they were the best team last season but played all of their "hard" games on the road this year it's at Tiger stadium UT=an offense that is gonna be scary *as long as the interior line holds up. I'm worried about the secondary but still like LSU Texas will be favorites every Saturday
I think this could be the way it pans out as well LSU also has a capable starting QB to replace Russell - Matt Flynn and a Defense that will be one of the tops in the nation. Their defense will keep them in games and Flynn has the skills needed to win them.
Flynn>>>>>>>>Russell seriously LSU D>>>>Texas D Texas O>>>>LSU O strength vs strength if it happens Mack>=Miles LSU overall talent>=Texas too close to call LSU>>>>>>>>>USC Texas>>>>>>>>>USC IMO
There's a joke in there somewhere... BTW, major upset alert: Rhett Bomar and SHSU over Okie State. Book it.
Speaking of LSU, wtf happened to Ryan Perrilloux? He had a ton of hype coming out of high school, and he still hasn't grabbed the starting job. Was he just all hype or what?
Yep, very cocky and had to overcome their depth. He's also been getting into a lot of off the field trouble. Les Miles is LSU's biggest liability. They are loaded. Can't wait for the season to start
Hell yeah! Eat em up Kats! I'm not suprised by UT's ranking. Colt is healthy and has a year of experience. Yes, so good pieces are gone, but this is Texas. They reload, not rebuild. I think Charles is going to have a good year as the feature back. If not, there's plenty waiting in the wings to take some snaps. Between Colt and what is probably the most talented and deep receiving corp in the country, they are going to score a lot of points. I think the loss of Chizik is going to prove to be a good thing. His schemes last year with some very talented DB's (3 of them drafted) were not good. Akina is going to do a good job. I expect at least a Big 12 championship.
They didn't have Bomar last year. It was Thompson all the way through. OU has good depth at running back.
