By David DuPree, USA TODAY Houston Rockets All-Star Tracy McGrady has unceremoniously thrust himself into the already crowded NBA Most Valuable Player conversation. His Rockets have won five games in a row and six of their last seven. McGrady has been phenomenal in that stretch, averaging 29.9 points, 5.6 assists and five rebounds. Houston plays Friday at the Dallas Mavericks. Houston is 1-1 this season vs. the team with the best record in the league, and they will play the Mavericks for the fourth and final time during the regular season. The Rockets have the fifth-best record in the league. With all of the talk about which teams are going to make major moves before the Feb. 22 trading deadline, the Rockets will make perhaps the biggest move: getting center Yao Ming back from a fractured leg. Yao was having an MVP-type season before his injury 21 games ago, but the Rockets didn't collapse in his absence and have gone 15-6 without Yao. They were 34-48 last season as Yao missed 25 games. The Rockets have taken a more wide-open offensive approach without Yao, resulting in plenty of McGrady. "We're in a nice little groove offensively right now," McGrady said. "My teammates have been great in providing offense as well as opening things up, allowing me to play one-on-one and have single coverage." In the 40 games McGrady has played this season, Houston is 30-10. The Rockets are 2-6 in the eight he has missed
His 43 points in tonight's win against the Mavs will help solidify him as a legitimate MVP candidate.
I think the Mavs will double him from the get go and make other guys beat them. Hopefully Shane's and Rafers's shot is on tonight.
I think he will get MVP, if he keeps playin like this he will definetely deserve it. His performance tonite will show
Hey thats not me adding, I caught that too in the article He must have been busy today. Anyway , it is just here to show that T-Mac is getting some much over-do respect for a strong season that could easily have had us in last years boat with Yao going down and T-Macs back ailing again. It seems that now that Mac is healthy he is willing the Rockets to a great record and he deserves MVP recognition!
There is, I am looking at my tickets right now Its going to be on TNT as well, so it should be a crazy crowd (I hope) Last game before the All-star break too...can't wait
Where'd you pull that number out from? Last I checked, it was still at 6.3 Anyway, doubt that Tmac will get any serious consideration, given that he didn't even finish the runner up when he gave his best season in '02-'03. Still, tonight's should be an interesting game. Seems like Mac always rises up to the occasion against the Mavs.
