The trend is that this number is growing. What's your estimate of the terror suspect number by the end of 2006?

    100000? 120000?

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - A watchlist of possible terror suspects distributed by the US government to airlines for pre-flight checks is now 80,000 names long, a Swedish newspaper reported, citing European air industry sources.

The classified list, which carried just 16 names before the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington had grown to 1,000 by the end of 2001, to 40,000 a year later and now stands at 80,000, Svenska Dagbladet reported.

Airlines must check each passenger flying to a US destination against the list, and contact the US Department of Homeland Security for further investigation if there is a matching name.

The list contains a strict "no fly" section, which requires airline staff to contact police, and a "selectee" section, which requires passengers to undergo further security checks.

Some 2,000 passengers checking in at Stockholm's Arlanda airport have had to be cleared with the US authorities because of name matches on the "selectee" list this year, although none was prevented from boarding, Svenska Dagbladet said.

Your guess is as good as mine. I did fly from back from Texas last week, though, and wasn't bothered.

It depends on the number of registered Democrats in the swing electoral states. ;)

I always get them too. I think having like 20 saudi visas in my passport is the main reason. :)

IN a world of 6 billion plus... that's a small number.

You must realize that even in a world of 6 billion plus, the thousands who died during 9/11 was NOT a small number.

Yes. But now that's apples and oranges isn't it?

Are you implying that it is unfathomable that there could be so many suspicious types on the planet?

You compared the deaths of innocents to a list of possible criminals.

Why? Trying to use my words against me as you would a "T_J" type?

Furthermore, why is it so troubling for anyone to see a watchlist get bigger? A feeling of guilt perhaps? Said the wrong things on a cell phone or in a BBS or chat room lately?

Tightened security does nothing to the innocents... but hopefully does deter a possible criminal from claiming more of their lives.

I'm glad the founders of our country, and the authors of our constitution felt differently than you.
