There are lots of sociopaths who become soldiers, cops, or politicians because they think it will allow them to get away with indulging their worst impulses.

And for many of them, it works.

Its not really much different than collecting scalps. We really aren't that far removed from the barbarism of the late 19th Century.

Why do we get the idea that every soldier is a patriotic saint with an American flag waving in they're background?

I was just about to post this too.

Much props to the true soldier who showed courage in reporting it.

Reminds me of A Few Good Men

Perhaps because the media repeats the mantra "Our troops are heroes, our troops are heroes" over and over again. Truth is: much like the branches of domestic law enforcement, some (in fact, I would say most) people are in it for the right reasons, and some are in it just to get the power-rush of exerting (sometimes deadly) force over another.

Weed out and punish the bad apples. I still have all the respect for our troops!

Not surprised at all. Anyone who expected better is naive.

Because that's what we're constantly told. Anyone who dares to suggest otherwise is labeled unpatriotic (or worse).

    Repped.

It's propaganda most people eat up that every soldier is some noble warrior like Major Winters from Band of Brothers. Our military is enormous. Many of the soldiers are good people but there's also those who I've met that left me aghast after talking to them.

Umm come on, for those of you who have played Fallout 3, collecting fingers of evildoers in return for caps is an achievement only available for good karma characters - nothng to see here.

Are you also blaming ps3 for all this?! ;)

But ya, very sad to hear. What can be done? Govt needs soldiers and attempting to peform psycological test on every recruit would probably result in a high failure rate.

This is disturbing and sickening. If true, these people should be punished severely.

This. I am also glad that someone decided to include an "if true" qualifier. This would not be the first time accusations like this were made that turned out to be false. I hope they are not true, but if they are the perpetrators deserve to go to prison.

    Are these soldiers Christian extremists?
