U.S. Seizes Boat With Links to al-Qaida

    Dec 19, 11:14 AM (ET)

    By MATT KELLEY

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Navy has seized a boat in the Persian Gulf carrying two tons of hashish and four people tied to the al-Qaida terrorist network, the military said Friday.

The guided missile destroyer USS Decatur intercepted the boat on Monday, U.S. Central Command said in a statement. On board were two tons of drugs worth an estimated $8 million to $10 million and 12 people, four of whom have suspected ties to al-Qaida, the statement said.

The boat, a wooden vessel known as a dhow, was near the Straits of Hormuz, the narrow part of the gulf between Iran and Oman, the statement said. The area is a known smuggling route used by Osama bin Laden's terrorist network, the statement said.

American forces searching the boat found 54 70-pound bags of hashish, the statement said. The investigation which followed found clear ties between the drugs and al-Qaida, the military said.

The Decatur is part of a U.S. Navy force including the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Of course, this wasn't in Iraq, but a great find nonetheless.

These terrorists are nothing but cowards. I mean, they had a whole 12 people against a Guided Missle Destroyer and they wouldn't fight to protect their stash? Don't these guys ever rent "Scarface?"

Well you are being quite the curmudgeon today. It was in the Persian Gulf, very close to Iraq, so you can bet that troops stationed in Iraq had something to do with this capture. You do like to point out flaws don't you? It really cheapens your praise (and your argument).

I continue to stand behind the troops 100%, even if others do not.

And this cheapens everything you write.

You don't care about the troops, you just care about your party. If it was a Democrat in office, you'd be praying at your altar at Treasure's that more troops would perish so you could get your man in office.

Personally, I continue to stand some 8,000 miles behind the troops. And I stand behind them 100%!

You seem to always have a qualifier about good news coming from the troops abroad.

What qualifier, you were wrong, and if you paid any attention RM95 supported the war in Iraq.

Does geography necessarily count as a qualifier?

You owe it to Greg Maddux and Chipper Jones to know where they are and where the drug boat was intercepted; Here, free of charge, I'll show you:

    You are quite welcome. :)

Does pointing out a fact mean he's trying to belittle the troops effort? Why is it when somebody points to the truth, rather than argue about the fact, or even admit that he was correct, instead there is an effort to cast doubt about his support for the troops?

Keep up the good work guys.

I would certainly hope that somebody would wipe T_J's altar with Lysol before he got down on it and started praying. There's gotta be 3+ years of dried T_J spooge on that freaking thing!

Shhh, facts just get in the way of making them feel better about themselves.

When you're standing behind the troops, do you at least have the decency to give them a reacharound? While you're cutting their benefits back home, it really is the least you can do. (talk about a qualifier!)

I knew I should have been disciplined and let you snatch that low-hanging fruit first.
