There are 'degrees' of discipline, there's no such thing as complete 'discipline' in war, especially when it comes to occupying foreign lands and ruling over foreign peoples who're -- naturally -- 'hostile' to you. War is dehumanizing by its very nature. And soldiers are trained to be professional killers, to see everyone outside their own uniform as a potential target. That's the nature of the beast.
it's definately not good to see howerver, don't be so quick to judge. I doubt many of you have been on the front lines of a war. that's probably the most stressfull situation one can be in. i'm believe, for most of these soldiers, there mind is not in an ideal place due to their situation. terrorist show no discipline in choosing their victims or targets as well. they even use there own childern as delivery agents. i think we would also agree that terrorist is also not in the write place in their mind due to their bastardized interpretation of Islam. point being, discipline is extrememly difficult when you don't have discipline over your own mind.
Of course, you cannot equate terrorists with the US armed force, right? Of course war is stressful, that's why you don't start a war unless aboslutely necessary, which was not the case here. You do not start a war just because you are stronger than the other nation and you don't like them.
i never equated terrorist with us soldiers, you did. i made a comparison of the mind and of control. i never said anything about starting/stopping or reasons for/reasons against war in my post. neither did the original poster, you did. did you read my post, did you read the original posters post? it helps, especially if you hit reply.
I think there is a basic problem here that no one has mentioned. We are using Marines for patrols and counter-insurgency. The US Marines are trained and equipped to conquer. We traditionally haven't used them for police-action, and we don't train them for that. As far as war planning goes, after the Marines had successfully conquered Iraq, the holding of the country should have been left to the Army, and the Marines only used again if the US lost control of a city or territory and needed to reclaim it militarily.
