I did a favor for a friend who had moved to L.A. but left behind some important papers. I kept them for him and then he asked me to send it to him via UPS. He had them pick up the box and I really didn't have to do anything. Well now UPS is coming after me for the bill as he didn't pay it. I mentioned it to him several times and each time he said he had taken care of it or will pay it but clearly he is a scum bag. When I call UPS they say I am responsible since I am the shipper and if I don't pay it they will send it to collections. They have my name and old address. told them I'd give them the info of this guy so they can go after him and not me but they didn't care. Any thoughts?
Pay them. I think you have no recourse with UPS. Then mail a copy of the receipt with a very officious sounding letter carbon copied to two attorneys who work at the same law firm in your area. (Don't actually carbon copy them, but put them there at the bottom of the letter with all of their official acronyms and degrees or whatever.) The letter shouldn't threaten anything but should deliver a deadline for the scumbug to pay you back.
Clearly a Chinese scheme to takeover the US... J/K But seriously sounds like a crappy situation but I would pay UPS, because it will affect your credit score. You might have a case in civil court if you could show any proof that he told you that he would pay for it, but thats probably not worth going to court over.
really? I mean come on... How much is the freight bill? No more than 25.00? Wow smh... just pay it...
Damn dude, how'd you ship it? Next day? How many papers was it? Must have been really heavy. You are still stuck with the bill, UPS won't care, they'll go after you.
What if I don't pay it? They don't have anything but my name and an old address. The guy isn't going to pay. He's a scum bag obviously. I already wrote him a note saying that after he said he had already paid is 3 times. I don't think we'll be friends anymore ha!
If you don't pay, it goes to collections and starts to damage your credit. You're going to have to pay. Looks like it was shipped next day air priority. That's the only way it would be $75.
Collections agency's skip trace people with limited information, they have your real name and a previous address, they'll be able to find you. If you don't care about the credit hit then don't pay it.
