Yao is going to have to work on his quickeness as well then. No big deal, his still 7'6 and can pass and shoot.

Why not. They have all the pictures taken from the training, and quotes from NT coaches sounds very reasonable.

Supposedly having your big man stay in the paint is a good thing.

    from MOD:
It sounds more reasonable that the NT coaches could being trying to defend CBA training methods - deemphasizing weight training - without caring they won't be able to seriously compete internationally until they change their thinking.

well this would seem to make sense to me. if they are comparing yao of today versus yao of last year, of course he's stronger and stays in the paint more. those are the things the rockets emphasized all of last season. and with that added weight, it just makes sense that he'd slow down some.

this sounds like they're stating the logical and obvious. still, the report is appreciated. :)

Ah, don't you just love the media? Let's see....

NEGATIVE VERSION: Yao becomes slower and not as agile as before

POSITIVE VERSION: Yao becomes stronger and intelligently stays closer to the basket for block shots, rebounds and easy scores.

Funny how the SAME information can be spun in both a positive and negative way. ;)

I hope Yao keeps going Rockets way and not going back to his old soft playing style.

It doesn't really make sense that Yao would be less agile. Only guys who are super bulky muscle bound freaks become less agile. I mean they encourage you to work out for track so you can get faster since you can generate speed more speed from a stronger upper body and lower body. So I don't think Yao's limited working out now has caused a decrease in agility. I say limited because he has not been working out for that long. Oh yeah and the entire NBA is a good example of how working out doesn't hurt your agility.

Also, wasn't it Chinese NT training that made Yao lose 4 inches on his vertical? I remember there being some report about that on Yao before we drafted him, but I haven't heard anything on that since. Can anyone tell me about this?

Yea, I was about to say the same thing? I remember he got that in a game, but who gave it to him and when? Just curious.

That was curtoesy of Shawn Kemp! I too am amazed that scar is still there. They must not have done a very good job of cleaning it up or something.

shawn Kemp gave it to him, it is a scar now. And no, there was not a foul called on the play. NBA players should be made to cut their finger nails.
