Two months ago or so I had made a post about how I had been robbed and assaulted at gunpoint while delivering a pizza. He had stolen my cellphone and made phone calls that provided some leads for the robbery detectives. I hadn't heard anything about my case for awhile, but two weeks ago the detective assigned to my case said they were closing in on somebody he had talked to that night from my cellphone who they believed was either involved in some way or would know what happened. Well, I got a phone call this morning from the prosecutor's office telling me that they found the guy that robbed me and charged him, and that he confessed to my robbery and some others. I'm pretty psyched up about it because I wasn't really confident that they would ever find the guy. I'm not sure what all of the charges are that this guy is facing or what the penalties he might incur, yet. Crime does not pay young lads, let this be a warning to you.....;)

I do not know if you remember my post. I posted in your thread back when this all took place.

I told you how I respected you and your work ethic and I told you that I believed that good things will happen for people like yourself who work hard, make an hoinest living, and most of all just do the right thing. Do you remember?

This is not an "I tpld you so," instead this is to tell you things are looking up, way to hang in there, and hopefully this is the start of more good things are in your near future.

BTW, at the time you said you were unsure if you could pick him out of a lineup, do they have some one else who has been able to positively identify him?

How are things going? Did you change locations or just stick with the old one?

Glad to hear they got him, keep us posted.

Thanks for your words of support T.H. I just reviewed the original thread I had posted about this and remember what you had said back then. Actually, I'm not any more convinced I can pick this guy out of a line-up than I was back then (early April actually). I'm not sure what sort of identifying I will have to do, considering the guy confessed and everything. We'll see. Wait....I just got another call from them. There is going to be a line-up tomorrow morning. I guess I'll just go there and see how it goes, depending on what they tell me. I'm not going to pick someone out if I'm not sure its the guy.

I'm working at the same location, but still looking for something else. I worked at Hewlett Packard for a day recently in Willowbrook doing some assembly work, but it was long hours for not much money and pretty far away from where I live, so I quit. I was kind of depressed when the robbery happened, because of that and for other reasons but I'm feeling a lot more optimistic, even if the job market and economy still sucks right now.

So when the police arrest somebody that robbed you, do you get to kick them in the knards?

Glad you weren't hurt and that they caught the scumbag. It's always nice when they get what's coming to them.

I worked at Bank One a few years ago and we were robbed. The guy jumped the counter and grabbed me around the neck and stuck a rifle barrel against my left temple. He got away but they caught him 20 minutes later driving a stolen car (with red dye all over the windshield) down I 59. I was never scared but it all hit me a few days later when I found out the gun was actually real and locked and loaded. Up until then, (maybe subconciously) I thought it was a toy. I had some bad nightmares for about a week. To this day, I don't go into banks.

The guy was 19 years old.

Well, I'm off now to go identify the perp. It should be an interesting experience, whether it will turn out to be successful or not.

Cagey, I'm glad they found him. I've never been the victim of an armed robbery, but I have been burglarized. One time a burglar stole all of my guitar equipment, including my main axe at the time, a customized 1977 Stratocaster. When the police arrived, I gave them the serial numbers of everything that had been stolen. I got a call a week later from the investigating officer. They had located my Strat at a pawnshop, and they told me that I could go in and pick it up. I walked in and identified myself to the pawn shop owner, and even showed him my drivers license. He gave me my guitar, and as I got ready to leave, he told me that "he had paid a pretty penny for the guitar, and he sure would appreciate it if I bought something in his pawn shop to make up for the difference".

There were 3 other people in the pawnshop. After he said that, I was a little pissed, so I said in a loud voice for the other people to hear..."I've got an idea. Maybe you shouldn't fence stolen property, a$$hole. Go f*ck yourself. "

The other 3 people followed me out the door. The pawnshop went out of business later that year.

    Cagey,

Funny you should mention this. I was in a Pizza Hut the other day waiting for take-out. The delivery guys were coming in and out and I thought of your situation and wondered what, if anything, had happened.

Good to see crime doesn't pay...in this case anyway.

And it's 100% true. It happened in 1983. About a year after that, I found my stolen amp at Southpaw Guitars on Bellaire. When I questioned the owner, he said "how do you know that's YOUR amplifier???" I then showed him where I had engraved my Texas Driver's License number on the chassis of the amp.

It was pretty stupid, and the stuttering that followed (wow...er...I mean...wow) was stupid as well. I haven't walked into that store since, and I doubt I ever will.

What a cowinkydink, I just read about this the other day:

    source: http://money.howstuffworks.com/pawnshop2.htm:

Pawnshops are regulated at the state level in the United States, and every state has different rules. Some of the details are absolutely fascinating! As an example, let's take a look at how a pawnshop works in the state of North Carolina.

    ...

Pawnshops are a business just like any other. But unlike many other businesses, pawnshops have a special set of laws that keep them on the straight and narrow. Pawnshops are specially licensed, and it turns out that they have to cooperate with police on a daily basis to prevent the movement of stolen merchandise.

When you pawn an item, the pawnbroker takes your name and address, verifies it with your valid driver's license and then inspects the item carefully.... If there is a serial number on the item, it's also recorded on the pawn ticket. There are three reasons for this level of scrutiny:

Every day, the pawnbroker must submit a list of all merchandise received, including serial numbers, to the police. The police compare the serial numbers against records of stolen merchandise. Anything stolen is recovered this way and returned to the owner. Why do they do this? If a stolen item is found in a pawnshop and the item was not reported to the police by the pawnshop when it came in, the pawnbroker can be charged with receiving stolen merchandise.

From what you described, pawnshops in Texas must not regulated as closely as they are in NC.......?
