He is somewhat a former rocket but it looks like the Grizzlies are having him play on their summer league team this year. I wonder if he is still always going to be that "raw" player. of course if he has a 10 point 10 rebound game in the summer league half this board is going to be screaming for Morey's head for trading him link
then half of this board would be silly for doing so two threads in a week about a guy who never played for us and has shown nothing that says he will ever be on an NBA roster
Anybody heard from Marcelo Nicola lately? I sure as sh-t hope the Drexler trade doesn't come back to bite us in the ass one day....
How about that Lior Eliyahu guy. When is he gonna get a shot at the team? He's not getting any younger.
Torres was playing in the Italian League last year and his team finished in 8th place in the Italian League at 17-17 and the Italian League is not as good as the Spanish League, Greek League, Russian League these days. They were in the ULEB Cup the 2nd level competition after the Euroleague. Torres was the starting SF. So basically, at this point he's not even playing at the Euroleague level. Morris was playing last year in Maccabi a big Euroleague club from Israel the same team that Eliyahu plays on. Maccabi made it to the final game of the Euroleague championship and lost to CSKA Moscow. Morris was the starting PF and Eliyhau was the backup PF behind Morris. Morris was first team all Euroleague at PF and Eliyahu averaged a whopping 3.8 points per game in the Euroleague. Now Morris is signed with CSKA Moscow to be their backup PF and Eliyhau is at the moment back as the starter at Maccabi. At the Euroleague level for the biggest clubs none of them is considered good enough at the moment to be a starter. Biggest clubs would be FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Olympiakos Piraeus, Panathinaikos, CSKA. Morris however is considered good enough to be a backup on one of them as he is on CSKA. Eliyahu might be able to get a contract on a team like Olympiakos maybe but he would be a 2nd or 3rd string player in a club like that. Right now Eliyahu has a long way to go before he sees the NBA. Badiane was playing in the SECOND DIVISION of the French League, not the first one the second one. And the French League is one of the weakest ones in Europe these days. If he gets a contract with Memphis it would be about the same as Ajinca getting picked in the first round after averaging 5 points and 5 boards in the French division 1. In other words the ultimate project player.
what's your outlook on Olympiakos this year? I am a big fan of european basketball, that is my favorite team.
Uhm... (assuming that you mean players the Rockets had the rights to at some point - otherwise we could be discussing Jordan, Lewis, etc. whereas the Rockets coul have selected them but opted for someone else or in Rashard Lewis's case - 3 someone elses) I think that would be...Richard Jefferson then Rudy Gay (at least in the last decade).
Taken from a Grizzlies blog... but interesting to see his player description is still identical to that of 5 years ago. Raw meat!!! http://3shadesofblue.blogspot.com/2008/07/brief-introduction-to-summer-time.html Malick Badiane - 6-11 C/PF Saint Vallier (France) - Many people have forgotten about the trade deadline acquisition of Malick Badiane's rights for the rights to Sergie Lishuk and his visa problems. Originally drafted by the Houston Rockets out of Senegal Badiane has spent four years in Europe and has played on the Senegal National basketball team. Only 24 Badiane is still a work in progress and with a 7-5 wingspan and 32" vertical there is a lot of potential in his game. However he is still considered very raw by NBA standards and would benefit most by upgrading to a more competitive league in Europe.
Well I'm more versed in Italian basketball but Olympiakos is such a big club that basically all their games are televised in Europe. And they have a bunch of high profile players coming from other clubs that you could also watch a lot. I would say for them incredible coach, incredible IQ point guard. On paper they would have to be one of the two best teams on the continent this year. Too bad though that they are also just one of the two best teams on paper in Athens as the other best team in Europe on paper Panathinaikos also plays in the same city. Kind of weird. So they have pretty good prospects to win a Greek championship, a Greek cup, even the Euroleague, but they also have a good chance to win none of them because of the Panathinaikos club being in the same league. On paper doesn't mean anything though. I think any sports fan knows that. I think their team is something like: PG Theo Papaloukas/Milos Teodosic SG Lynn Greer/Yotam Halperin/Arvydas Macijuaskas SF Panagiotis Vassilopoulos/Michalis Pelekanos PF Yiannis Bourousis/Giorgos Printezis/Zroan Erceg C Nikola Vujcic/Sofo Schortsanitis/Ian Vougioukas Good enough to have guys like Macijuaskas, Printezis, Sofo as back ups. Pretty strong on paper, one of those elite clubs like FC Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, Real Madrid, TAU Vitoria, Panathinaikos. The best thing going for them is definitely their head coach and their starting point guard. They had Anthony parker agreed to a big contract but last I heard the Raptors blocked him from leaving his NBA contract. Obviously if he could get out of the Raptors deal that would make them a lot better.
LOL - don't fall for this Nine, Sam hates Euro BBall (Says they play in barns), and is probably trying to see if you are similar to a former banned poster here. Shame on you Sam. DD
