i think everyone would agree, that NOT letting Bidge get his 3,000 hits would be one of the greatest shames in the history of Houston sports

in fact, moreso than letting Ryan go to the Rangers and rack up more no-nos and Ks

I think he gets there late next year ....I think you could even play Bidge only 100 games and he'd still get it

After next season the Biggio and Bagwell era will officially be over :(

Enter the Berkman and Oswalt era though :)

If the team doesn't find a way to sign him next year that'll be one of the biggest dissapointments to fall on this organization. He deserves to get 3,000 here.

Drayton isn't a Jamesian numbers guy...he loves to show loyalty...and he loves the splashy move..specially with guys with a local connection.

Biggio will get 3000 as an Astro.

And it might cost us a few wins next year...and I am 100% ok with that!

And if you are one of the guys who are .....NOOOOOOOO! We might be able to squeeze .050 points more OBP out of Burke...

    Sorry but....Screw you!

    at the title

It says at the very beginning of the story that Biggio has not ruled out playing past 2007.

I hope Biggio gets # 3,000 in Houston, I would hate to see him in another uniform. To me Biggio is the face of the Astros along with Bagwell. It would be a tragedy if the Astros let him go.

Biggio and the fans deserve nothing less than the opportunity to get #3,000 in a Houston uniform. Any one who doesn't think so just isn't a true Astros fan, IMO.

I'm selfishly kind of hoping that Bagwell isn't a first ballot HOF. If there is a way to get both of them in the HOF in the same year, it would be nothing short of amazing. I have no doubt in my mind that I would be making my 1st trip to Cooperstown if that were to happen.

I would hate to see Biggio in another uniform and I totally agree with Major Malcontent about having Biggio get his 3000 in a Stro's uniform even if it costs us. Considering that he has had a few slumps in his career before he still might be able to work out of it and also considering that his HR numbers are up this year there's still very much a possibility that he can contribute to the Stros.

It depends on his attitude. I would hate to see him go to another team, but if he doesn't accept a bench or platoon role then he can hit the road. Chris Burke should be made the starter if the Astros don't pursue another 2nd baseman. If you ask me, Biggio's decline during this season has been steep enough that he could end up embarassing himself next year. He's already a guaranteed Hall of Famer and the greatest Astro in franchise history but I guess the 3,000 hits is all he cares about.

Maybe I'm just being negative, but I can see him complaining next year about not getting enough playing time and it could get very uncomfortable. This is what happens when veteran players care more about stats than wins and losses.

Garner needs to be playing him right now every day in the leadoff spot then. We haven't got a lot to lose at this point. And the more ABs he gets this year, hopefully he could get 9 or 10 more hits so he would only have about 75 or so for next year.

I would certainly like to see him make it as easy as possible for next year. Maybe this little break he's getting will give him the energy to go on a little tear for the rest of the season. I think he understands that he will be splitting more time next season should he chose to stick around.

I'd love to see Biggio stick around next season to get to 3000. Drayton will certainly pay to keep him.

After Biggio gets to 3000, around the break, Garner needs to play whoever is better at 2B, offensively and defensively, because I expect us to be back in a pennant race next season. Like Clemens, I don't think Biggio can take a full season's pounding at this point anyway.

That is what I was thinking as well. He may try to play more than next year... never know.

"I am not retiring," Biggio said. "I am definitely coming back. I know I'm not done. If it's not Houston, unfortunately it will be somewhere else."

Why is he so sure some other team would want a so-so fielding 2nd baseman that hits .175 outside of MMP?

i know, these, I don't want to see him do it somewhere else posts are sort of jumping the gun. he probably would get picked up somewhere else, but he wouldn't play much.
