    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1707386/

    Director: Tom Hooper

    Valjean - Hugh Jackman
    Javert - Russell Crowe
    Fantine - Anne Hathaway
    Marius - Eddie Redmayne
    Cosette - Amanda Seyfried
    Eponine - Taylor Swift
    Thenardier - Sacha Baron Cohen
Mme. Thenardier - Helena Bonham Carter
    Enjolras - Aaron Tveit

It's an adaptation of the musical, not the book. Apparently the singing is going to be done live on set and not prerecorded. Interesting cast, I guess a bunch of people are pissed over the Taylor Swift casting (she beat out Lea Michele and Scarlett Johansson).

I'll probably see it. The book's not one of my favorites, but I enjoyed the musical. Even if it's bad, whenever there's singing involved there's usually high unintentional comedy potential. And I guess there might be some Naked Anne Hathaway potential.

Lea Michele is a trained Broadway actor and as the best voice suited for "Les Miserables", I'd be pissed too.

I like the cast for the most part, except for Sacha Baron Cohen. I can't take him seriously.

Um, he plays Thenardier. You're not supposed to.

I'm in... there isn't a person in that cast I dislike.

I can see why Taylor Swift getting a part above better actresses is upsetting to some, but she has a spoiled little rich girl look about her, with a hint of innocence that those other two don't have... plus Lea Michele has already done On My Own for Glee... so there might be issues with Fox because of it

:) I actually haven't ever read the book... only seen the play... so I'm wondering if maybe I should

Never seen the musical, but have read the book and watched the last movie adaptation. But I've been tempted to see the musical once I found out it was an actual thing from Seinfeld and not fictional like "Rochelle, Rochelle."

Don't know about Jackman's singing but Crowe is talented. I think his first band was 30 foot odd something......!!!

am i on crazy pills or did i just stumble into a serious discussion about the movie musical adaptation of Les Miserables on clutchfans?

Jackman is a seasoned musical theatre veteran.

I liked the 1998 version with

    Geoffrey Rush as Javert
    Liam Neeson as Valjean

Doesn't Hollywood usually wait longer to do remakes?

this version will be the musical as opposed to the adaptation of the novel itself.
but this is the current trend in Hollywood- movie musicals based on the broadway versions of plays that are adapted from other source material themselves.

with this version I would have liked to see Baz Luhrmann or even Tim Burton tackle the musical adaptation...

30 Odd Foot of Grunts. I saw them here in Austin and enjoyed it, although Crowe talked and joked as much as he sang, not that there's anything wrong with that, not when he's doing it! Even have a signed poster.

Crowe has singing experience of a sort, though not sure if he can manage the tone and considerable range of Javert, but I assume that has already been tested.

Was hoping for Lea Michele for Eponine. Somehow I can't see Taylor Swift playing anyone but herself. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Helena Bonham Carter will be great. Looking forward to this; the musical has never been done as a movie. Honestly, I've never seen it as a play because the shows were too freaking expen$ive... quite familiar with the soundtrack and storyline and read the book (abridged version) so I have a pretty good idea how it will go.

I really enjoyed the 2000 mini-series version with John Malkovich and Gerard Depardieu.

Never read the book though, have to pick it up soon.

EDIT: Oh, and turns out it's Samantha Barks, not Taylor Swift as Eponine. And Colm Wilkinson is playing the Bishop.
