Sources: Liberty Bowl Seriously Interested in UH

    http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/091123-liberty-bowl-university-houston

HOUSTON - College football sources told FOX 26 Sports Monday officials at the Liberty Bowl are highly interested in having the University of Houston as their representative from Conference USA against an SEC opponent.

Sources told FOX 26 Liberty Bowl officials are envisioning a potential old Southwest Conference match-up which could involve Houston and Arkansas.

Houston and Arkansas were members of the Southwest Conference prior to its break-up.

Liberty Bowl officials are intrigued by the idea of having the nation's leading offense engineered by quarterback Case Keenum.

Keenum leads all Football Bowl subdivison quarterbacks in total passing yardage, passing yards per game, total offense, and is fifth in passing efficiency.

By contract with Conference USA the Liberty Bowl has the first bowl selection from CUSA.

Historically the Liberty Bowl has taken the Conference USA champion since the two-sides developed the relationship in 1996.

From 1996 to 2004 the Conference USA regular season champion played in the Liberty Bowl.

Since 2005 the Liberty Bowl took the champion from the Conference USA title game.

However, there is no mandate that says the Liberty Bowl must go that route.

If Houston beats Rice Saturday to finish the regular season at 10-2 the Cougars will advance to the Conference USA Championship game.

The Liberty Bowl could extend an offer to the Cougars regardless of what happens in that game.

Are you saying that this is a bad thing or a good thing?

    BTW, the bowl system blows.

I would say its a GREAT thing because otherwise we would be going to Dallas for the Armed Forces bowl again...UofH vs Arkansas would be a great matchup in my book.

It would be great because the final score would probably be like 74 to 71.

Yes! I was worried about losing to ECU in the title game and having to go back to the Fort Worth Bowl again. Im glad the Liberty Bowl stepped up. Lets see a Coogs vs Vols matchup instead.

We can already pen Arkansas for about 50 points. Hopefully Keenum's arm doesn't fall off trying to fight their defense and ours at the same time.

Wow, people are excited about the Liberty Bowl. What happened? I guess losses to UTEP and UCF has brought them back to reality. :p

However, I agree. UH and Arkansas will be a fun game to watch!

I wanted to see the Houston Cougars play a major bowl game on New Year's Day. I think they should play the Cotton, Outback, Holiday, or Gator Bowl. They have the talent to play in those games.

Actually most of the reasonably well-informed Cougar Fans on this board were not delusional enough to think this team was destined for a BCS bowl and you're damn right the Liberty Bowl is something to be excited about given the previous state of the team.

this would be a crazy game. two of the best offenses against two of the worst defenses. As an Arkansas student, I'd definitely be there. However, if Arkansas defeats LSU this weekend, they will be in Arlington.

Well if it indeed is UH vs Arkansas, then one team is guaranteed to win their first Liberty Bowl.

In previous appearances, UH is 0-2 and Arkansas is 0-3. Somewhat interesting fact. ;)

The article just says its a possibility. Realistically, I think the Liberty Bowl would take the CUSA champion. Anything less devalues the role of the conference championship game, and that won't make CUSA very happy. Ultimately, the Liberty Bowl isn't likely to do something to hurt their partnership with the conference.

If I remember right, Houston has a pretty high-powered offense while Arkansas has a pretty piss poor defense. As somebody stated earlier, it would probably be a high scoring shootout.

The C-USA champion should go to the Liberty Bowl. I have no interested in UH going on "pretty points".

That said SURELY we can deal with Rice, and SURELY we will be "up" for a C-USA championship game.
