I am contemplating going for my Masters of Arts and Ph. D in Political Science over at U of H. Has anyone here ever done it? If so, I'd like some general feedback. I work full-time which makes class scheduling difficult. In general my question is; based on the coursework that is required, does it make sense to begin this education while I'm still working full-time, or wait until my wife can "win the bread" and I can work part-time? Beyond that, I'd like some general feedback on the program at U of H if anyone has done it.
I did a year of Ph.D work in poli sci @ UH, hated it, and quit. Can't really offer advice, but it wasn't the right concentration for me.
I have an awful lot of friends with PhDs in a range of fields. Until the baby boomers retire (and that will be quite some time for those who are tenured) there won't be much in the way of job opportunities. After years of hard work it is rather frustrating to be competing for community college positions with people who just got their degree from Harvard. If you just love the subject and will never need the income, by all means, go for the degree.
i will be applying for the history program at UH for spring 2010, i work in academic advising, i tell every student i see, study something you love that way you will hav no regrets, as far as careers go, it's up to you on where you want it to take you, we live in a paper based society and your educational paperwork is part of that hustle, i know plenty of folks who have a ged or a diploma only and make more money than me, but i love what i do, with my experience i dont have to limit myself to just the classroom, i can work in the administrative side, dont really know what i'd prefer when i finally achieve my educational goal, but i think a combination of professor and adminstrator is what i'd really enjoy, but there are plenty of options for people who have higher ed degrees in liberal arts so dont think you will be limited
