Going unsung here (and everywhere) is the trade of 'so ugly he's cute' Mooch good guy/no game for 'so ugly he's ugly' good guy/got some game Spoon. Moochie was trying, but giving nothing. Spoon has been spotted time and taken great advantage of it. He is too short to guard 4s, too slow to guard 3s but they don't score when he's on them. He has no shot but is always in an open spot and gets those buckets to fall. Loose balls? He's going to get them, or at least keep them alive. Boards, picks whatever. He does whatever he has to. Spoon must have a very positive +/- point differential for his PT. I think this guy is a terrific addition.
OK, true. Also true is that the Rox got a contributor (who apparently has had his share of meatball subs) who is a ballin' sub!
i agree. i thought it was a great trade when we made it and now that spoon is getting comfortable here it is looking even better
Weatherspoon Worth it? Was getting Weatherspoon paying off for the Rox? I think it has becuase he can be a big key when we get into the playoffs where Mooche really wasnt any help at all. Plus we got to sign M. Jackson which wouldnt have happien if Mooch was still around.
And now that Isiah brought in Penny Hardaway, Moochie's PT has dropped to almost zero MPG. Something tells me they'll find a way to move him over the summer.
that's all good but for a guy who makes 27 million dollars in five years i would expect a better player that someone who gets spottet and hits open baskets, he is a profesional bball player, he is suppost to make open shots, i still don'l like him, for the simple reason that he is making way too much money. OK moochie made a lot of money too so it's like a loose/loose situation here, the Rockets got screwd and so did the Knicks, these two players make too much money for what they do.
Spoon's got 3 things working in his favor: 1) The Rockets didn't give him his fat contract. 2) Moochie was far from living up to his own contract. 3) Spoon's playing hard and has found a niche at a flawed position here. The result: Low expectations + Solid production = Weatherspoon Bobblehead night. Watch for it.
As a matter of fact, he has the highest on the team. http://www.82games.com/0304HOU.HTM The sample size for him isn't as large as the other players, so the numbers are a bit skewed, but every time I've seen him out there, he has provided excellent rebounding and defense off the bench when we need it, as well as being able to hit the midrange open shot. Around the basket is another story, but you can't have everything... He is way, way more productive for us than I expected.
Speaking of small sample size, check out Adrian Griffin's +/- at -27.1!!! Spoon in a Rockets uni reminded me of Braggs earlier this season - mid range J, tough, takes out the trash kinda player. And look! Braggs is sitting there at #2 with a similar +/-. Give me 5 of those and a side of championship, please.
Thanks. I didn't know this existed. I just knew good things have been happening when he has been on the court. And as for 'He is way, way more productive for us than I expected' he is giving us something and Mooch, bless his talentless heart, was giving us minus nothing.
I actually agree with you, but just to nitpick, isn't minus nothing by definition something? I'm sorry... too much boolean logic in my veins...
Only if Moochie's "something" was greater than nothing; otherwise "minus nothing," for Moochie equals nothing.
