Guys, post your possible lineups next season:

    C-Yao/Deke
    PF-Marshall/Howard
    SF-Tmac/Draftpick or Bonzi Wells/Bowen
    SG-Derek Anderson /Spreewell
    PG-Jay Williams/Mike James/Spanoullis

Seems like a new line up..but it's deeper than what we have right now

Do we lose the rights to Badiane if we don't use him this year? Isn't it 2 years for a second rounder?

I think Badiane and Spanoullis both deserve shots this year.

Badiane brings length, speed, and athletic ability to a team that lost this series because a lack of it.

Bobmarley....true...but it was backcourt speed that crushed us.

    PF:

1st, We don't need an allstar PF. We won't have a chance on Chandler. SAR is only a slight upgrade and nobody knows how he will adapt to a lesser role. Swift is nice player, but probably out of our price range and he has many questionmarks surrounding him as well. Marshall could be an option but again, not much better what we have now.

Considering that draft is loaded with good power forwards and kinda thin at 2/3, I'd say we try to fill the void here. Based what I've read and seen, Ronny Turiaf would be very nice and he would add another dimension to this position. Other choices could be Warrick, Simien, May (if he falls). We need rebounding and athleticism, not necessarily low post scoring here.

    SG/SF:

This is in my opinion our biggest need. T-Mac plays way too much and we need a backup for him. I would offer full MLE for Bobby Simmons. Then we could start him and T-Mac and bring Wesley off the bench. Simmons backs up T-Mac.

    Bench:

Resign Dikembe. I would give him a 2-year contract. He is in a tremendous shape and shows no signs of slowing down.

Resign Jon Barry. 2 years - veteran minimum.

Resign Ryan Bowen for the minimum.

I guess it's safe to say Padgett, Mike James and Vin don't use their Player Options.

    Charlie Ward retires/is bought out.

Let Spanoulis and Badiane grow up another year. Spanoulis is 22, he needs some more experience in Europe before coming over. Same for Badiane, he needs to PLAY.

After that, our roster would look like this:

    Yao Ming/Mutombo
    Juwan/Ronny Turiaf/Padgett
    T-Mac/Bowen
    Bobby Simmons/Wesley/Jon Barry
    Sura/James

    Spoon, Baker, Moochie on IR.

I could live with that. We add youth and athleticism to our weakest positions.

If we can't get Simmons, there isn't a whole lot of SG/SF types in the market. Then we should pursue trades, but I think we'll wait for the trade deadline to use our expiring contracts.

    Other intriguing options might be:

Antonio Daniels - Not a pure point guard but an upgrade over Sura. Would not solve our 2/3 problems, though.

Kerry Kittles - I have no idea how serious his injuries are, but if healthy, he is a great defending 2 who can shoot. Could probably be had for cheap - I don't see why Clippers would sign him.

I think it's no secret that we're in dire need of a speedy PG who can distripute well, defend and knock down an open jumper. It is also no revelation that we need a decent PF who can rebound, defend, block shots, and knock down the open jumper. I think what we fail to recognize is that we have a number of needs beyond those things. If we were to be completly honest we'd admit that this years installment of the Rockets role players played over their heads; playing alongside Tracy and Yao can have that effect on servicable players. I think we have needs at every position this offseason. Hopefully management/ownership takes the opportunity to open up the checkbook and build upon the foundation of a 26 year old unrivaled swingman and a 25 year old potential superstar. As well as Sura, Barry, Wesley, Mutumbo, Howard, and James played for us this year, I don't think any of them are guarenteed to be here next year. We need value and we need to be willing to do anything to get it.

My 2005-2006 Rockets wishlist (feasable or not):

    1. Jason Kidd
    2. Tyson Chandler
    3. Hakim Warrick
    4. Bonsi Wells
    5. Kwame Brown

Lets say Badiane is a good defender at best. We could throw him at a guy like dirk or gasol. moving tmac to guard the better outside player, say stackhouse or howard.

Yes backcourt speed killed us. But the Mavs had more speed than us at every position except maybe McGrady.

But that is all moot depending on Badiane.

The league has a ton of players that have size and outside quickness and shooting, Dirk, Radman, Gasol, Prince, Odom, Amare. We gotta get us one of those.;)

I wish there was a way to get rid of Ward. At first, he was sought after by us. Now he is a wash and who would want him since he rode our bench the whole season.

And you mentioned Spoon, Baker, Moochie on IR, I'm not sure if that will happen. I think all 3 will be gone by the beginning of next season. JVG is going to have to get rid of some of the garbage on this team. I hope they just give up the money to some of these buyouts so we can start fresh w/ some new, young blood.

Draft: there are too many 4's in the draft for us not to pick one. warrick would be great, but more likey we end up with turiaf who might also be a great pickup.

Free Agency: since our 4 spot is taken care of right now, i think we look at size and speed in the backcourt. someone that can shoot, create his own shot, and defend. I bring you JVG's answer - Spree

then we re-sign deke, barry, bowen.

Trade: at this point we will have too many guards (spree-sura-james-barry-wesley...) wesley's no show in the playoffs + his ending contract make him our bait. package him with other ending contracts baker, moochie, or spoon, and you have a nice offer to a team looking to dump salarie. the ending contracts who are not traded may be baught out.

    yao-deke
    Jho-Turiaf - pad
    tmac-bowen
    spree -barry-ward
    sura-james-spanoulis

God, no, Sura shouldnt be starting. I hate our offense when he or James brings the ball up.
