I got to thinking when I saw the Clutch Awards thread in the Hangout that we do not have any representation in said awards. I propose that we have our own D&D Awards until such time as we are included in the main ballot. ;)

    Possible awards:
Best D&D Lurker (someone who rarely posts in the D&D but has great things to say when they do)

    Most informed poster

    Favorite opponent

    Broken record award

The "I wish (s)he was on my side" award

    Least poo-slinging poster

    Best Houston based poster

    Best poster abroad (from Houston)

    Best analogies

I have tried to keep the categories nice since everything ELSE here seems to be about flinging poo. The only exception is the broken record award and I want that puppy for my very own.

    Possible awards:
Best D&D Lurker (someone who rarely posts in the D&D but has great things to say when they do) - Mango, but I don't really get the point of this category.

Most informed poster - I don't know. rimrocker or Deckard maybe? On the other side I think basso's probably best informed though he leans way too heavy on right wing blog propaganda.

Favorite opponent - I really like the takes of mrpaige, Cohen, MadMax and even, most of the time, basso. I also personally like giddyup, but he's too stubborn to outclass the other four. I liked treeman and HayesStreet too, but they barely ever post anymore.

Broken record award - gotta give this to giddy, since no he never, EVER gives up. On anything. andy, you're a good broken record on weed, but giddy's a broken record on everything.

The "I wish (s)he was on my side" award - I can't imagine why the answer to this would be different than the favorite opponent one.

Least poo-slinging poster - Really don't know what you're looking for here and I object to the poo-slinging charge in general. It's popular to bash people who talk politics, I know, but I find it silly. Politics matter. It's stupid to dismiss people caring about them. I know politeness in these matters is some kind of weird holy grail but I don't worship at that altar. There are people on both sides who are more or less passionate. Some (on each side) are loudmouths, some are milquetoasts and most are in between. I'm bored with discussions of demeanor.

Best Houston based poster - don't care and don't know why this would matter

Best poster abroad (from Houston) - don't care

Best analogies - can't imagine why this would be an award

I like the best opponent award. The rest seem to me the most boring sort of apologetic political correctness. D&D awards should start with best left wing, best right wing, best independent, maybe best overall and go from there.

I'm really taking it in the chops for my decades-old pro-gay marriage position. My lifelong sensible gun control posture is earning me nothing but scorn as well. Aren't you glad that I'm stubborn now?

    :D

Edit: actually I'd have to say MacBeth is the most informed poster. Those other guys are way well informed, but MB's got the best off the top of his head historic perspective.

Regardless of those positions, giddy, as I said, I just like you. I think you're a good guy. But man, when someone tells you you're wrong (and presents evidence even) there's no one so stubborn. I actually find it kind of charming and even reassuring, given how reliable it is, but it definitely earns you a shot at the award.

I was actually throwing these out as possible awards. I typed them up really late so if anyone has other awards or would like to see other topics combined, please make suggestions.

I thought of the best Houston based and best abroad topics because there are some topics that we discuss (the 7.5 mile light rail, Proposition 1, etc.) that are really only applicable to people in Houston. It looks like those will not end up as awards, however.

No worries, bama. The propagandists have been a broken record for nearly a century. I figure it will take me (and others) being broken records for at least half that to make things change. :)

Most Informed: For their respective specialties:
bamaslammer, andymoon, traderjorge, mango, batman jones

Favorite Opponent: I guess if you lurk and/or are usually the last post in a thread its hard to have any.

I wish he was on my side award: I don't have a side to be on. My politics don't conform well to any party. I'm not even sure if I honest believe democracy works, really.

    Least poo-slinging: Cohen

broken record: hard to say, but I have to go with Sam Fisher's contempt of all things right of McGovern. :)

    favorite liberal: GV76
    favorite conservative: Imadrummer2k
    favorite libertarian: Bama

Most likely to be Andy Sullivan: basso
Least desirable to be in a bar fight with: bama
highest signal to noise ratio: Mango
    lowest: MacBeth

    edit: Best Rivalry:
Sam Fisher and TJ by far

    and there it is.

Best D&D Lurker - Trader_Jorge - this guys rarely posts anything...then - BAM - we get a nugget of wisdom.

Most informed poster - Trader_Jorge - It is obvious.

    Favorite opponent - CriscoKidd

Broken record award - Trader_Jorge - he is definitely a broken record...of wisdom.

The "I wish (s)he was on my side" award - rimbaud. Just because we are so different.

Least poo-slinging poster - Trader_Jorge - you can't call it poo-slinging when it is the truth.

Best Houston based poster - Trader_Jorge - I keep a log on my map of what areas he references so that I will know where all the white people are.

Best poster abroad (from Houston) - Trader_Jorge - I think he is from Spain.

Favorite liberal poster - Trader_Jorge - His ideas are all about up with the love and down with the hate.

Favorite conservative poster - me. I am well-rounded.
