So an ex-gf of mine who...seems to be trying to not be an ex anymore...is planning a night out with a couple of her best friends. One of the girls will be celebrating a birthday and they want to take her to a 'nice' restaurant that isn't you average high-dollar snooty place. I know there exist some of those 'theme' restaurant type places, or dinner theater spots, but trouble is I have no idea what or where they are. She mentioned some place in Kemah called 'Murder by Chocolate', some sort of mystery dinner theater or something but I don't know. She's asking me if I know of any places. I know you guys have all the Houston establishments down pat. Suggestions? Any cool restaurants that are unique and fun?
Unique, hard to say, but what girl doesn't like Fondue, plus its interactive: Melting Pot Restaurant (near galleria nightlife) Address: 6100 Westheimer Rd # 146, Houston, TX 77057 Phone: (713) 532-5011 I also would recommend Sambuca, a nice relaxing place that has live music on the weekends and has a dance floor... Sambuca Restaurant (near downtown nightlife) Address: 909 Texas St, Houston, TX 77002 Phone: (713) 224-5299 Other than that, try Timmy Chans wings n' rice...
At all costs avoid Yao Bar and Grill - Westheimer and Gessner Its named after a local athlete. The food is about as good as his jumping ability I recommend Mykanos (sp?) - Richmond at Sheppard Greek food. Awesome, and the one time I went, there was belly dancing.
By coincidence I just had to do some research on Murder by Chocolate. They have two shows a night on Friday and Saturday, the first dinner theater and the second dessert theater. I haven't ever actually been there, but the thing is that they get all the guests in costume and with a small role to play and the crowd basically becomes the play. At the end, it is solved which of the guests "murdered" whoever the dead person was. It sounded pretty decent. It's also in Kemah, so you'll have access to all the carnival games/rides outside as well as romantic seashore walks. Man, I should be in advertising! As for the food... well, it's dinner theater. Hope you like chicken parm. Their website is www.amysterytome.com Other "theme" ideas? Well, there's that Magic Island joint on 59 @ Kirby... I think they do magic/comedy dinner shows. Never been there either, but you may want to check it out.
If it's a girl's night out, I recommend that you DON'T suggest it, if only for the fact that they will probably not eat $45 worth of meat...although they do have a very very nice salad bar
