Yea. I don’t love the Aps or A’s just an interesting take I thought. also, you saying regional makes me also believe this was a way to get fans outside of Dallas who don’t wanna be cowboys fans but are Texans lol
It is a bridge for both those within Houston and those Texans outside of Houston. Research indicates Texians was the most popular self label during the Republic.I could work with that.
I don't know a out the three syllable thing even though it's an interesting discussion point. Too many teams out there, especially at the collegiate level that do just fine with three or more syllables and don't shorten anythinh. Dynamo is three syllables. Never heard anyone complaining about it being too long. Montreal Canadians. Michigan Wolverines. Penn State nittany lions. Seattle Mariners. I get that a lot do get shortened but when there is not an easy way to do it people just don't shorten them. If it gets too long for folks, just say Houston. I would have much preferred the Apollos.
LOL! But there really is some truth to both the research and my childhood. The Alamo, John Wayne's version, which was thoroughly researched made mention of Texicans, Texians as well as Texans when talking about those declaring Independence. The research about the Republic time-frame preference is online.
I'd be in that camp too if it hadn't been confirmed multiple times by high level people in the org. I personally think they're trying to cast a wide net and see what sticks. I don't hate that approach. We won't have 4 active unis for a long time methinks.
II need to see the other side of the helmet, as I assume it's the red portion of the logo, which would not (IMO) look good on a red helmet. If it's just the same navy horn flipped... well, that changes the logo significantly.
I hate "Apollos" and am glad it's not that. I think it's 6 of one half dozen of the other when compared to the Texans.
And, also - "a darker blue".... is still in the ballpark of "steel blue" (which is a made-up color, anyway - it's just navy). But, yes: I've not seen any indication that - other than adding H-Town blue, that the other primary colors are changing, especially since they have said the logo is not changing (and incorporates steel blue)
