Any photos that are just forever imprinted in you memory? February 1, 1968. South Vietnam police chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan shots a young man, whom he suspects to be a Viet Kong soldier. Kim Phuc, the little nine-year-old Vietnamese girl running naked from the napalm strike near Trang Bang on 8 June 1972, was burned by Americans bombing Trang Bang. 2003. An Iraqi prisoner of war tries to calm down his child. 1963. Thich Quang Duc, the Buddhist priest in Southern Vietnam , burns himself to death protesting the government's torture policy against priests. Thich Quang Dug never made a sound or moved while he was burning.
All those are powerfule (except VY) but that one of the child with the vulture in-waiting just gives me the willies.
That Oklahoma City one with that fire fighter carrying the kid. That Vince Young one isn't even on the radar. If you want to put some iconic sports thing on there, you could do Roberto Clemente, or Arthur Ashe or something.
I notice a whole lot of these pictures are ones with Asians,Arabs and blacks suffering. Not trying to race bait or go into anything with bad intent here, but why is it that those types of photos are so memorable to Americans? Is it an indication of how insulated most of our country is and it reminds us how well off so many of us are? I'm glad there are a lot of other photos that are memorable for showing human victory, though.
