SmeggySmeg said something in the Rocket draft pick thread that made me curious. What undrafted prospects are out there that we should invite to pre-camp or summer camp or training camp or any kind of camp-out? IOW, is there still a "Marquis Daniels" or "Ben Wallace" out there for the Rockets?
I like James Thomas...he could be a nice Larry Smith type player. Too bad Mr. Mean is not with us any longer. DD
James Thomas really seemed to have a big drop in production this year. I know TJ Ford left, but his game was all hustle and effort, so it shouldn't have taken such a hit. I heard speculation that he was having physical problems of some sort..
Jaber Rouzbahani? 7'5 can dunk on his tip toes. Wouldn't teams love it if, when Yao went out, someone just as tall came in? Who would ever get to the rim? He's been working really hard on his game, and has only been playing for 3 years with his only coaching beign in Iran - meaning he has TONS of room for improvement.
YES! MIZZOU! then trade for ricky paulding, keyon dooling, kareem rush, and sign anthony peeler. actually... keyon dooling's not that good forget that one.
James Thomas' knees and back are shot. That is why he had such a monumental drop in production this year. I don't think he had plans trying to further his career. Mouton would be nice as a off the bench shooter. Brian Boddicker wouldn't be terrible as the new Matt Bullard.
Thaaaat's not true. I lived on his floor this year with Royal too and he had some injury problems but he is far from done. He was working out with a bunch of NBA teams spring semester, Washington in particular, IIRC. It's funny, last time I talked to Royal, he mentioned he was working out with Chicago and Atlanta. I'm glad they picked him up. And dude, Boddicker sucks. Air Bullard would just jump over him. But seriously, Boddicker does suck.
I hope Brian Boddicker took some Italian courses at UT. Seriously, he could make 5 years of good money in Europe. He could come home at 27 years old with a million bucks in the bank. I watched Brian in the State tourney his junior year and thought he was the second coming of Larry Bird. I guess everyone else just caught up to him. He still had a great college career though. Sure I watched a lot more of UT than any other college team but James Thomas sure looks like an NBA role player to me. You could put him out there just to rebound and piss off the other team's star PF. He may not quite be Dennis Rodman but he could be a second team Worm.
i would love to get him. theres not too much risk in bringing in a guy for summer league and he's 7'5 so the potential upside is definitely worth the risk.
DEFINITELY a serviceable backup behind Yao. I can almost envision him being Cato-Lite: boards, blocks shots, brings the pain and intimidation factor that we need. His jumpshot is sort of questionable, but JVG had Cato taking those midrange jumpers...I'm sure Arthur Johnson can learn to make ~40% in game.
I would like to see them bring in Rickey Paulding. He didn't have a great senior season, but definitely worth a look IMO. He shot almost 40% from 3 point land his Junior season.
Boddicker should not be playing pro ball at any level. All he does is loaf around the 3pt line, and it takes him about 20 seconds to set his feet and shoot. He can't have anyone around him either. He does not know how to box out and looses the ball easily. JT could find a place in the league with hard work.
they'd have to talk to detroit about that, since they drafted him. (the pick right before the Rockets)
i actually think arty johnson can be better than Cato... he already has a better offensive game. i.e. he won't blow layups. he's listed at 7-1 on espn... but when i watched him play for mizzou he's definitely not... 6-10 maybe?
