What are some movies that ya'll think are underrated? No, Saving Private Ryan is not underrated. My vote goes to Snatch, its funny and has a great story that comes together well at the end.
Vanilla Sky The Thin Red Line (I know it was nominated for Best Picture, but people always compare it to Saving Private Ryan) Unbreakable The Mexican What's the Worst That Could Happen? Osmosis Jones Joy Ride These are all fairly recent. I'll think about it more and try to give some from the non-recent past.
Here I was wondering to myself, "Hmm what's a good movie that's underrated?" I draw a blank, and then I see MB's post... Rounders is an awesome movie.
Nope. I've never heard of that one but a look at IMDB.com makes me think it might be interesting. I like Jason Robards. Pacino is so damn cool in Author, Author and Alan King is hilarious. I'm a sucker for the movies with big hearts.
never really thought about it before, but i agree. rounders didn't get a whole lot of attention, and I really thought it was a very good movie.
Wow, I would list these two as well, although their something uncomfortably imperialistic about Joe vs. The Volcano. My Bodyguard is the best. And it has Joan Cusack as a bonus - "Shelley, Shelley darling - you're always right." What ever happened to the little blonde dude who tells Moody "You owe me a year's worth of lunches" then hides behind Ricky Linderman (Adam Baldwin)? He was hilarious.
Off the top of my head: PCU Cutting Edge Rushmore Thin Red Line Twins Army of Darkness Tron Cutthroat Island (go ahead and laugh) Better Off Dead High Fidelity Cannonball Run Die Hard 2
Wing Commander....a decent popcorn movie. Uncomplicated. No unexpected plot turns. Not a really well made movie. It had extra cheese, but I'll go with cheese over the Jar Jar's. The biggest plus was the lack of acting. There wasn't much...good or bad. The "actors" played themselves instead of acting which gave this movie a "real" feel that most Sci Fi lacks. The Squadron was clique-ish as the treated the newbies poorly. The Sci part of Sci-Fi was done well. It flowed really well and is a quality veg movie for when you want to go brain lite. I'd give it a 5 out of 10, but considering it usually gets negative ones by those who haven't seen it. Just an average film that elitist moviegoers dog because it only tries to be entertaining and only partially succeeds at that. It lacks the annoyance (read Jar Jar) caused by the truly horrendous films.
"Round Midnight" is a very underrated movie. If you love jazz music, go rent it, if you can find it that is. I had to buy it on Amazon.com, because I went to a dozen Blockbusters and Hollywood video stores around Houston and none of them had this movie in stock. It's about a jazz musician who moves to Paris late in life and befriends a French jazz fan and his daughter. It stars the legendary jazz saxophonist Dexter Gordon. Gordon was nominated for best actor for this role, but he died during the time between being nominated and the actual academy awards ceremony that year. If you love jazz music, you will absolutely adore this movie. I highly recommend it.
Amelie damnit!!!! Lethal Weapon National Lampoon's Vacation Grumpy Old Men Ferris Bueller's Day Off The Goonies The Coneheads The Couch Trip - hysterical! Funny movies are always underrated.
