What more does Battier need to do for his jersey to be retired?

  1. Has already done enough

    7.2%
  2. Needs to play at least 4 more seasons in Houston

    7.2%
  3. Needs to win a championship in Houston

    35.5%
  4. Is not good enough to ever have his jersey retired

Shane is pretty much at the peak of his career right now, he is not going to become an offensive asset, and his defense will probably improve slightly in the next 2 years based on veteran smarts.

He probably has one more contract at the MLE before he retires in 5-6 years time.

He'll never make the HOF but he is a great leader on the court and in the lockerroom.

What more would he have to do for you to support retiring his number here in Houston?

If this is the peak of his career then there is no chance I would retire his number.

He's got to help bring us a banner. No Championship, No Retired Jersey.

Hold Kobe Bryant, Brandon Roy, and Lebron James to less than 5 ppg in this season's playoffs.

If Battier can average 25+ ppg while holding his man to 10 below their scoring average on a consistent basis for the next 4-6 years while leading us to two or more championships I will consider it.

He would probably have to spend the rest of his career here and win multiple championships. I don't see him ever having his jersey retired here.

Maybe Duke could justify retiring his number if they haven't already...but an NBA team, lol.

If we could reverse time by about 3 years, give Battier the ability to score like the '04 Mcgrady, then he might have a shot. But as it stands now, none. Kind of a silly thought when you consider the entire scope of the history of the franchise and only 4 guys are up in the rafters now.

Guys like Mario Elie and Robert Horry would go up there before him- and that's if we just went overboard on retiring numbers.

We didn't retire OT's, Cassell's, Elie's or even Horry's digits and those guys helped us to titles...Battier is a fine player but the dude has gotten out of the 1st rd ONCE! No Chance sorry

You have got to be kidding me. This is absolutely ridiculous and pathetic. Wow!

Here's a list of role players that will never get their jersey numbers retired and they contributed a lot more to the Rockets and helped this team win championships:

    Vernon Maxwell
    Mario Elie
    Sam Cassell
    Robert Horry
    Otis Thorpe
    Kenny Smith
    Carl Herrera

This thread is an insult to all of these guys.

I will never understand the delusions, fantasies, and hero worship associated with this overhyped and overrated player. I blame it on the information and technology boom. Just goes to show that with the internet at your disposal and the right amount of hype and propaganda, you can get people to believe anything.

He would have to finish his career here or be the defensive stopper for 3 Rocket Championship teams, or make DOP, or get named 1st team defense 5-6 times. Or, he could stick around with the staff somehow for awhile.

DPOY, shut down Kobe in Western Conference final, shut down Lebron in NBA final, hit a corner three in double OT game 7 vs Cavs in Cleveland (with Yao fouled out) for the Rockets to win the championship 121-120.

If Shane Battier can lead us to at least the Western Conference finals. Bam. Retire his jersey.
