I know most of you probably don't care about this, but I just saw one of the best college football games that I have seen in a long time. It reminded me a lot of last year's Miami-FSU game. Georgia, who I had no hope of winning today, was playing Tennessee up in Knoxville. When I finally turned the game on, UGA was losing 14-3 in the first quarter. I thought, "Great, they are going to get embarrassed again." Then something funny happened..Damien Gary returns a punt for a touchdown to cut the gap to 14-10 and then David Greene, who was outstanding, hit a Freshman receiver named Gibson for a touchdown (it was Gibson's first ever catch) to put Georgia up 17-14. UT would get a field goal to tie but would later miss a 34 yarder right before the half. In the second half, it was all about field position. UGA had great field position and UT did not. Georgia finally thanks to a long pass play to Gibson got in range for a field goal in the 4th quartera and made it to go up 20-17. Tennessee tried to come back but Clausen was intercepted in Georgia territory with under 2 minutes left. Then UGA got conservative and ran the ball 3 straight times with UT taking a timeout after each play. UGA punted and UT took over around their 25 yeard line. About 3 plays later with UGA in that damn prevent defense, Clausen threw a little screen pass to Travis Stephens and I'd be damned if he didn't run all the way for a touchdown of about 65 yards. There were only 45 seconds left and UGA had only one timeout. UT did something stupid, IMO, by squib kicking and gave UGA great field position around their own 35 to 40 yard line. Greene made a great throw to TE Randy McMichael and then another to him down to the 6 with 10 seconds left. Then he threw a great, gutsy pass to the fullback Haynes coming out of the backfield over the top of the defense and into the end zone for a touchdown!! There were only 5 seconds left and UT never got a chance to run a play on offense. UGA wins 26-24. This is the first time that they have won in Knoxville since 1980 when I was 7! Fullmer is like 51-4 in Knoxville before today with 3 of the 4 losses coming to Florida. What a great day and game! Now, if only Texas can beat Oklahoma...
That was an incredible game , What the Hell was Fulmer thinking when he decided to squib kick . There were 42 seconds left , not 5 . On another topic , Rex Grossman looks freaking awesome for Florida , He is already has 20 TDs and 1800 yards passing , I smell a heisman .
You're cocky now...we'll see if you're still cocky when your Sooners play a real Florida football team like Miami or Florida in the Rose Bowl!
