Looks like another mega-disaster-this one being very ill-timed. Could be the straw on the camel's back for a near-failing state.

I'm sure Pakistan needs all the help it can get now.

Everyone should avoid giving money to anyone or anything linked to the Pakistani government, you will literally be giving your money to thieves. If you do donate I would advise giving your money to a reputable not-for-profit organization.

You pack that many people in one area and put in a touch of nature or mother earth and things like this will happen.

    A terrible tragedy, for sure.

As a Pakistani-American, I find that mildly offensive.

    I know.

Following it up with the cheeky 2012 comment makes it even worse.

Sorry, not at all my intent, it is horrible.

The 2012 comment was a poor choice - and I have edited it out...my humblest apologies.

Those people suffering do not deserve it.

    Natural disasters suck.

Horrible. So this is just a series of rains/monsoons that caused this? Scary thought.

Whether justified or not, the world not giving as much attention or material support (as Haiti) to the mostly poor Pakistanis affected by these devastating floods only strengthens further support for extremist groups in the region. The Paki military is already stretched thin so all real aid on the ground is being done by these groups. 'A hot meal, dry bed, roof over your head, oh would you like to read and hear some extremist propaganda?'

The civilian and democratically-elected government (rigged elections?) is inept and corrupt but only supported by the international community because it fits a naive policy of certain countries that prefers superficial democracy-on-paper than actual government that is practical for a pop of 170 million (of which half is illiterate  )

That being said, I'm glad for whatever support people around the world have given so far. It doesn't help that the cash-loaded Arabs next door don't care (Saudis are constructing an $800 million clock in Mecca). Scanning local Arab newspapers and channels, I can't find any mention or discussion of the floods in Pakistan.

That, and combined with piss-poor engineering standards, and fiscal corruption all throughout Zardari's network, nothing will ever get done correctly.
