Evidently some leading officers in the devolment of the Gizmodo are alleged to be in cahoots with organized crime and have stepped down. Dada, are you going to send the Swedish mob after me? http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6973 From article: In addition, fellow senior Gizmondo Europe executive Stefan Eriksson has resigned from the company, also to pursue "new entrepreneurial pursuits", following an expose by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, which alleged Eriksson's involvement in the 'Uppsala Mafia', a criminal enterprise which led to his convictions in his native Sweden from charges including counterfeiting in the early 1990s. Fellow Gizmondo employees Peter Uf and Johan Enander have also apparently left the company, and Enander is currently wanted by the Swedish police, according to Aftonbladet.
It's all hype for an upcoming kick-ass mob based game. Not all companies have the same promo budgets as Sony...so they get their press where they can .
It is ALL true, they resigned last week after we found out about it. Totally embarrising, and I am thinking of resigning because of it.....probably won't though...just pisses me off. Man, this company is one helluva ride. Wait until our next game.... "Swimming with the fishes !" DD
DaDa, you should definitely ask for a raise! Based on some of the discussions about your product I might think this is a good time to jump ship...But i hope things go well for you regardless.
Man, that is another thing that pisses me off, our PR has been SCREWED up the device IS NOT a gaming device, rather it is a Lifestyle product (much like a Television) that the applications define the user market. Our killer app right now is the Satalite navigation package with cradle. You can get a complete Sat Nav package for around $400, about half the price of other comparable ones. And, it plays games, Movies, MP3s, Email, Text messaging etc.etc.etc... That is how it should have been positioned, but the Mafia guys would not listen to us about this. And ironically, the games are coming......and version 2 is about 4 times more powerful than the PSP, and it will be out next summer. I hope the company makes it...but if it doesn't I have 2 more companies on the side I am starting up. DD
I would very much like to read the article in Aftonbladet, but unfortunately, it's not in English. Anybody know of a way to get it translated from Swedish to English? (I think this is the article: http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,718446,00.html )
I have used a few Swedish to English translators and they usually suck. I've used this one the most often. http://www.systransoft.com/index.html Maybe I can get my girlfriend to translate it when she gets home.
Here it is in English for the most part: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=12547 Enjoy ! DD
Jeez, DD, this is incredbile! How long have the people at Giz known about this? How did these criminals come to be so high up at Giz? How do your PR people intend to deal with this black eye?
Those aren't exactly questions he can answer... well, maybe except to say "No one at Gizmondo knew anything and as soon as they found out they were fired..."
They were big investors in the company, and still are major shareholders. They officially resigned (wink wink). How are we going to deal with it? By making a kick ass device that has applications everyone can use, then by placing ads all over the country saying. "Gizmondo, buy it, or we will kill you !" DD
I have 2 offices in Sweden, one in Stockholm, and one in Helsinborg....I visit every year in June or July.... I am amazed at how pretty that country is in the summer..... In the winter, not so much....and it is dark at 2pm....not my cup of tea. DD
