Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I was just curious. As nice as out depth has become, we still have two more cuts to make to get down to 15 players to make the squad. Since two of the remaining 17 are injured, and on top of that do not appear to be able to offer much, if anything, to the team this year, this decision should be a no-brainer. However, it occurred to me to wonder if it is even allowable for the team to release an injured player before he recovers. Wasn't that the whole reason Dion Glover stuck around last year longer than he should have? Hopefully some of you CBA- and contract-gurus out there could clarify this issue. I mean, it should be easy enough to decide that Jacobsen stays, and Sura and Bowen say bye-bye, but if either or both of Sura and Bowen literally cannot be cut until they recover (or retire, in Sura's case), then not only does that cost us a guy with some possible potential to contribute at some point in Jacobsen, but if both Sura and Bowen have to stay, then who else after CJ gets the axe?? I doubt it would be JL3, because of the two year contract, so that would probably mean Padgett gets whacked once again. I would REALLY like us to not have to lose quality depth like that. Can anyone positively confirm exactly what the situations are with those two, Sura and Bowen. As an aside, just from personal preference, I would like to never see Bowen in a Rockets uniform again. However, I believe I feel the same as most Rockets fans where Sura is concerned. If he could actually make it back from his injuries and play for us again, that would be great, a great story. In that case, it would be 'Jacobsen who?'. So I could swallow a situation where Bowen and CJ go away, and Sura stays. But I would not be too happy about it if they only keep Sura around in order to try to squeeze out some kind of exception or refund or something like that.
I think it is clear that Sura and Bowen should be the ones released......they can be released when injured, they have guaranteed contracts. DD
Novak is human, you know. He might have some off nights. I like padgett because he has the size and is a veteran.
I felt that way too at first but Novak keeps getting rebounds and meshes with the starters pretty well.
Padgett has rebounded pretty well, and has defended the paint better than I expected. Jacobsen is the one who doesn't belong in the NBA. I would rather have Sura's tradeable contract (and possibly Bowen) than Jacobsen.
I believe Bowen will get cut, Sura will retire, and JLIII, Jacobsen, Padgett will be our "match up" players/human victory cigars...
Quick question: Exactly where is Bob Sura? Is he even in Houston? I mean I haven't seen nor heard anything from the guy HIMSELF. Just curious...
It would not surprise me to see three players cut. I would expect the Rockets would try to pick up a backup center for injury reserve if another team is forced to cut one. I think Novak and Padgett stay even though they may be a little redundant. I expect one to be inactive in case the other gets hurt. If Jacobson finds his shot, he could be the 2/3 3pt specialist like Jon Barry.
As awesome as it was to see your 12th man lock down a rival's all-star, Rybo is not capable of guarding Dirk anymore. Dirk has added the ability to get to the basket to his repertoire. Rybo is too slow to guard Dirk now.
Do people here really think Jacobsen can help the team or are they just kidding? Seriously, I think Bowen is better to keep than him.
i tihnk we need to keep padgett. JVG wants 4's who can hit 3's. we have shane, novak, and padgett. even with an injury to one of them, we will still have a starter and a backup who can hit the 3. i don't think sura will be cut or retire just yet. his ending contract may help facilitate a trade that puts us over the top at the deadline. yao-hayes-deke shane-novak-jho tmac-bonzi-padgett snyder-head-sura rafer-billy-lucas sura's ending contract might help move jho's fat one. he's worth keeping around. jacobson played pretty well, but when bonzi and head get back he won't see the light of day.
Please, Bowen is terrible! He should be cut and the sued for being clueless on the basketball court. At least Jacobson can make a open shot, sometimes!!!!
The problem with Jacobsen is that he never hits any shots despite his reputation as a shooter. Still i'd take him over Ryan Bowen any day of the week.
I think if JVG was gonna release a long-time Rocket like Bowen, he would have done it early, at least in HOPES that Bowen could land another job (like he did with Padgett). So sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I think he's here to stay. Personally, I wanted to cut Bowen.. but not for Casey. CJ hasn't shown anything--especially the shooting that gives him a job. If Dave Jamerson shot like this in the preseason, he sure wouldn't have had a job.. I'd rather keep Sura and Bowen.. or get back one of the 2 previous cuts if Sura chooses to retire.
NO WAY!. Jacbosen provides a lot more to this team than bowen does. He hustles a lot and shoots 10000x better. Right now he seems to be in a mini slump of sorts, but he is doing other things. If you saw the games so far whenever CJ and novak are on the court Casey makes a conscious effort to try to get novak the ball spotting up. I think he may have made 2-3 passes to novak last night for the shot when he had a great chance to score himself. If he finds his stroke again then its pure gravy with him and novak out there.
