Who do you consider the be the ultimate kings of funk? Here's my list: 1. George Clinton AKA Sir Nose D' Void Of Funk , Star Child, Mr. Wiggles, Bootzilla, Kidd Funkadelic, Dr Funkenstein. Any Parliament/Funkadelic work is the bomb, literally. Clinton's solo work is also pure genius. He took the funk underwater and into outer space. 2. James Brown The Godfather of Soul, Mr. Dynamite, The Hardest Working Man in Show Buisness, Mr. Please Please Please... JB is probably the most influential artist of popular music today. A living legend. 3. Sly Stone Sly took the music higher, and in the process smashed the boundries of white and black music. The Family Stone was the first fully integrated group in the history of rock. To me he is the most soulful of the funksters. But the end of his career is also the most tragic. 4. Prince OMG. Prince has to be the most talented musician/genius in the history of the funk and rock genres. I don't think there is anything this guy can't do. 5. Stevie Wonder A real American Idol, Stevie's genius trandscends funk/soul. His music is joyful and positive, a gift for all people. Oh yeah, he is blind too.
where are the ladies? chaka khan.... c'mon now.... "tell me somethin' good". give her a little credit.
The Commodores: "Awww, she's a Brick House, she's mighty mighty, just lettin' it all hang out" Earth, Wind and Fire: "Fantasy"
Thank you! "Once You Get Started"? "Ain't Nobody?" Early Diana Ross was pretty funky as well. "I'm Comin' Out" James, George and Bootsy are slam dunks.
Dont forget the Soul Sonic Force with "Planet Rock" Also, speaking of George Clinton and the Parliament, "Atomic Dog" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

thanks a lot DarkHorse,..........great help. So it seems you are the winner of this self-prepared mixed CD with some of my funk/soul faves. Fanfare here xxxxxxx. If you want it send me your address on my email. And what kind of music is David McCallum making in general. Shamely never heard of him. ciao.
Nice...giving some love to an under-rated music genre always been a huge fan of Clinton and P-Funk...simply amazing stuff. Ohio Players, been a fan of theirs since I was about 10... Tower of Power is one I discovered not that long ago...I dont have a lot of their stuff... What would you consider their "essential" recordings? James Brown....what else can be said..he is just simply...The Man! and I dont really consider the Commodores funk, but I did listen to them before LR left..did they do anything afterwards?
I would have to say The Commodores early stuff was definitely funk, before Lionel converted them into balladeers.
Lookin back...you are right...I guess when I first thought about them...all that came to mind was the later stuff.. but they still weren't as funkified as Clinton,Brown,OP or EWF..
