Uh-oh Those NY picks might not be that valuable after all in trade

Looks like there is a "unspoken done deal" regarding Joe Johnson to NY. But it gets worse, Toronto is willing to accept David Lee in Sign and Trade with Bosh.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b.../12/2010-03-12_knicks_hope_all_isnt_lost.html

First off, if this goes down, its automatic tampering (although stern wont care since its NY)

a lineup of sergio/johnson/chandler/bosh/scrub is an excellent team in the weak east conference. Those 2 NY picks we can have wont be lottery ,thus the value of them in future trades is that of a mid 1st rounder at best instead of "top 5".

I dont understand why David Lee has such large "worth". He gets abused by good centers like Bogut . Also, If Im Toronto Id much rather have Brooks or Scola or even just the 2 Ny picks instead of Lee. Lee grabs alot of rebounds because he is on a very very very bad team that cant shoot,so he gets alot of rebounds from those misses. Lee isn't a "superstar". Hell, Id rather have JORDAN HILL at age 22 than Lee.

I saw these rumors too and shrugged them off.

I still think you can make an argument that a Bosh/Johnson/Sergio/Chandler is still a bubble play off team even in the east.

Man they aren't even as good as hawks now.

They have a little better PF (Horford is a superstar in the making) and the same SG. Then they are missing every other key piece the Hawks have.

They will be a playoff team because they are in east, but that's about it. So getting 2 mid 1st round picks would not be bad at all.

a bubbly playoff team? i doubt the knicks would settle for johnson unless they know bosh is coming too. or else the knicks will keep that capspace and go after either melo the next year or paul the year after that.

we'll see. hopefully we get those lottery picks.

Any media reports out of NY should be taken with a grain of salt. Hell, they've all but already signed Lebron for the past 2 years.

If Bosh and Joe Johnson are the best they can get, I think the Knicks are screwed. That's one depleted roster. If they snag Lebron I would be worried, but those two? Not so much.

    1. If NY can tamper by arranging a deal with NY now, what's to stop another team from arranging a better deal.

    2. Toronto may be willing to accept David Lee for Bosh, but as in any sign and trade, Bosh has to be willing to sign before they trade. If Bosh doesn't want to go to NY then it won't happen.

Nothing to see here. It is the NY POST we are talking about here.

I highly doubt Toronto wants David Lee. You are going to see a lot of crap coming out of NY for the next several months. Can't till July gets here...

They're going to get somebody and I sure prefer them to get Joe Johnson than LeBron James or Dwyane Wade.

Seriously, if Morey used NY's own picks to pry Bosh away from the Knicks by one-upping their offer of Lee I would bow down and worship The Wizard.

As long as they aren't getting Lebron or Wade, we'll probably make out like bandits. Joe Johnson is not worth max money, and even pairing him with Bosh they would not be any better than the Raptors are currently IMO.

The home-run from our perspective would be Amare and Joe Johnson, with Boozer and Rudy Gay as close seconds to those.

it's OK because according to this Web site called... clutch fans . net? We're getting Bosh, Hill is going to start, Aaron Brooks is an Allstar but Kyle Lowry will start, Yao won't get injured again next year, we'll be able to afford Chris Bosh because we're Texas AND we'll re-sign all the people we need without going over luxury tax (Kyle and Luis definitely need pay raises and Yao with Bosh somehow), Ariza will somehow be effective (by way of magic?)

So far Joe Johnson stated he isn't going there just to play on a playoff team. He wants to play for a contender. Unless NY has other moves that we don't know about, I can't see him going there.

BTW... I think it's worth mentioning that Atlanta shys away from giving out Max contracts. I can see them not trying to resign him for the max. It will probably be the biggest mistake that franchise can make.

Picks and Jeffries as salary filler - that would be the ultimate.

I also expect the Nets to make a big run at David Lee this offseason. If they get the number one overall pick and trade Devin Harris for a SG, they are close to contending then NY. A line up of Lopez, Lee, C. Lee, SG, and John Wall will surely do some damage in the East. Especially if they can get JVG to coach them next year as well.
