What would it take to put UH in the Big 12? UH should be in the Big 12 and then in about the 4 yrs they would turn into a powerhouse program. You see what they did in the SW conference! Houston is to big of a city for UH not to be in a BCS conference.
The Big 12 needs its nerd school. The ACC has Duke. SEC has Vanderbilt. Big 10 has Northwestern Pac 10 has Stanford The Big East has... someone. Baylor is the dork school.
Man, and I thought that some of my fellow UTEP fans were the only CUSA folks delusional enough to think that their school could someday be invited to the Big XII...
you have to have a private school in the conference, it keeps the books shut. If Arkansas left the sec for the big 12, well then you could say good bye to UT and aTm because they will without a doubt join the SEC. Like with anything else, the cause and effect would be ridiculous; like dominos.
they're not...he's walking you through a scenario. baylor has won national championships in mens' tennis and girls' basketball since joining the Big XII. they've got a helluva baseball program. they have invested HEAVILY in better facilities. they're not kicking baylor out.
Houston's size is precisely the problem. Notice that the Big twelve removed all of the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston programs, and included the teams where college was king in their respective cities. Point being, no way in hell it'll ever happen. UH couldn't even get an invite to the WAC.
Like said above, need a private school to keep the financials closed. UT would never go to the SEC for academic reasons. PAC 10 or Big 10
Add to that that Baylor had a solid program until the early 90's. Baylor will make a comeback sooner or later. Oh, and I noticed you have a clone posting in the GARM.
HAHA. Baylor is not for dorks, its for RICH KIDS. I wouldn't compare BU to any of those schools. There's quite a few dumb people there. I mean, they gave me $36,000 in scholarships to go there. ME, kam. They gotta be handing out money to everyone.
Well, a nice first step might be the ability to fill up Robertson Stadium. You can get in almost anyplace if you're bringing enough cash dollars with you. Then again, if UH could consistently fill up Robertson, I don't really see why they'd need the Big 12. I mean, why associate with Aggies if it's not absolutely necessary? The breakup of the SWC killed big-time football at UH. They're not the only school it harmed, of course, but UH went from Cotton Bowls and Heismans to 0-11 pretty damn fast. They're back on the right track now but aspirations of big-money conferences are pipe dreams, especially if the football team starts losing again. EDIT: And we're gonna have to do SOMETHING about that mascot...
Id like to see it simply because its bound to help recruiting. It would be fun to see Houston talent stay in Houston. Especially in basketball. Basketball is where UH could get good in a hurry.
Any chances of Houston joining the Big XII were killed back in '01 when they pulled that Bleachergate bullsh*t at Roberston Stadium before the Texas game. Essentially, they put up rickety visitor bleachers which were deemed unsafe the day before the game. As a result several thousand Texas fans couldn't go to the game at the last second. UH's dumbass AD offered to let them watch the game at Hofheinz Pavillion on the big screen as a concession. What a joke.
I agree with previous posts. 1) They'd have to decide to kick out Baylor and 2)TCU would have to decline their offer. I don't expect #1 to happen, and if it did, I don't expect #2 to happen. UH found themselves in a real crappy situation when the SWC broke up. Geographically, the only big conferences they could join would be the Big XII and the SEC. I don't expect a shakeup in those conferences anytime soon. It kind of sucks that a relatively mediocre C-USA team like Cincinnati got to move up to the Big East and that South Florida went from no team to 1A independent to CUSA to Big East in just a few seasons.
