Maggard is a r****d. Just because someone coaches at OU don't make him golden. He's gonna bring in his smashmouth OU football that just won't work in CUSA because there is no smashmouth back willing to come to UH. They needed to continue to spread the offense out and use the recruits they got coming in to play air it out type of football. I think we can officially bury this program for the next 10 years...it's over for the Coogs. Good job Maggard!
I was skeptical of the Pardee rumor, but he knows a ton about football, and always recruited well for UH. He would have been a nice stopgap until they found the next big thing in coaching.
Sumlin was in charge of the passing game at OU. There is absolutely zero chance that UH is going to suddenly switch to "smashmouth" football. I imagine the first question Maggard asked each candidate was, "What are your ideas for the offense?" Sumlin knows what he's in for at UH because if he'd been such an idiot as to not know how things work here, Maggard would have A) told him how things work in CUSA and B) not hired him. Oklahoma is known as a rushing school, but the offensive rankings (national) were nearly the same through the air (No. 37) as on the ground (No.30) this past season. Oklahoma racked up 3,373 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns in '07. Sumlin's receiving corps accounted for 19 (Hey, that's more than half!) of those scores, exceeding the total from '06 when his group had 17 touchdown grabs. Here's a question for you: Who would you rather have? Which coaches are on your short list? Because I notice you didn't offer a single suggestion in your pointlessly whiny post. Sumlin has no guarantee of success, but objectively he compares just fine with all of the other candidates for the job and it's my opinion that Dave Maggard (who has made the two best coaching hires in recent school history and thus earned some trust) hired him with good reason. In closing, you don't have a ******* clue what you're talking about and you're just another Coog "fan" who can't wait to "bury" the football program at every opportunity. Pardee would've brought with him tons of coaches who otherwise wouldn't have considered UH. Plus, the name Jack Pardee = recruiting. I don't like this hire; I would've much preferred to see a Run and Shoot UH team. Bah humbug. On the plus side, the Texans are pretty much wearing UH unis against the Broncos.
if Not Jack,then a guy like Sumlin.Look where he's coached.He has the class factor and will recruit like a mother.
I think that is a great move by UH. They are giving a OC from a top level program a chance at a head coaching position. The payoff could be big.
