They are bowl eligible, which doesn't necessarily mean they are going to a bowl. However, I hope they do, and I think the Cincy loss to Louisville the other day helped them, if I understand the scenarios correctly.
New Orleans or Fort Worth. From the Chronicle: UH likely will be heading either to the Fort Worth Bowl on Dec. 23 or the New Orleans bowl on Dec. 16, pending discussions today with C-USA and bowl officials. TCU is holding out for its hometown game in its own stadium despite getting an invitation from the GMAC in Mobile, Ala., to play Miami Ohio. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2259084
Why can't they play in the Houston Bowl? I know that the Houston Bowl has tie ins with the Big XII and SEC or at-large. I don't think UH has to travel TOO FAR or anything.
You just answered your own question. Looks like New Orleans for now.. against North Texas. Eat em up.
Good for the Coogs. Although I am a Rice fan and UH is our biggest rival, I cheer for the Coogs when we're not playing each other. I love Art Briles' offense, too. That's really fun to watch. Hopefully UH can start getting some good recruits to really turn them into a contender on a national level.
The Fort Worth Bowl???! Man, I'm glad I stopped following college football if it's come down to that...
UH cannot be invited to the Houston Bowl unless C-USA has filled all its bowl slots and, the Big 12 or the SEC does not have a team to send to the Houston Bowl. It is now impossible as Navy (Independent) has already accepted an invitation to the Houston Bowl. C-USA has 6 bowl eligible teams and 5 bowl slots...who is going to be SOL? 1) Liberty - S. Miss 2) GMAC - Louisville (if TCU passes) 3) Hawaii - TCU, Memphis 4) Fort Worth - TCU, Memphis, UH, USF 5) New Orleans - Memphis, UH, USF
1) Liberty - S. Miss 2) GMAC - Memphis (if TCU passes, which they have) 3) Hawaii - Louisville (has the fans, will travel) 4) Fort Worth - TCU 5) New Orleans - UH (USF is not bowl eligible, as they did not defeat enough DI-A teams, one of their wins was a DI-AA team)
My Big 12 predictions: 1) Sugar - OU 2) Fiesta - UT 3) Cotton - OSU 4) Holiday - KSU 5) Alamo - NU 6) Independence - Missouri 7) Houston - Tech 8) Tangerine - Kansas 9) Fort Worth - at large
What is taking so long? Memphis accepted an invitation to the New Orleans Bowl today. The Chronicle says the GMAC Bowl and New Orleans Bowl have loopholes if the C-USA team is not of their liking. Neither is interested in UH. Liberty - So. Miss GMAC - Wants TCU or Louisville, but TCU wants Fort Worth and Louisville wants Hawaii. GMAC does not want UH. Hawaii - ? Fort Worth - ? New Orleans - Memphis
I just heard that as well from a co-worker who lives and breathes UH football. Congrats to the Coogs! They deserve it. Art Briles is going to be a great coach for them for a long long time.
So are any of you Cougar faithful travelling to Hawaii for the game? I think it's an awesome reward for the seniors who have been through so much under Helton and Dimel.
What UH board are you referring to? I'm looking everywhere, but I cannot find any other indication that the Hawaii Bowl has made any kind of invitation to UH.
