I'm a big boxing fan, but I happen to see a fight on Spike TV that was just f%^$&*# crazy! Did anyone else see the fight between Stephan Bonner and Forrest Griffin? Those two were just beating the hell out of each other. I'm surprised that Stephan Bonner didn’t take him to the mat since he is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have noticed that a lot of fighters like to take you down and put you in submission holds. Anyone on this forum studying and learning a martial art or boxing?
Yep, I saw that fight. I thought that Bonner won, but it was a great fight. Pretty cool that they both got awarded a UFC contract.
I thought Bonner should have won as well. He was in superior condition than Griffin, who was tired throughout the fight, not to mentioned bloodied. Then I thought Ken Shamrock took a major dive against Ryan Fletcher. Shamrock didn't even attempt to get up after missing that kick. He just laid there. Didn't look real at all.
Yeah, it came off as a passing of the torch type moment like when Andre the Giant allowed Hogan to beat him. Whatever it was, you can't knock Ken Shmrock, that guy has been amazing to watch over the years and the UFC owes him for it's success. The whole show was amazing but especially the Bonner/Griffin matchup, one thing for sure, they better learn some mat skills or when to go down or both of them will end up punch drunk before forty. Anyone watching this weekeends fights, that should be pretty good as well, I can't wait for Chuck vs. Randy.....
That match was pretty awesome, the Shamrock match was a joke though, slipped and fell? that sucked, would of loved to see it last a little longer
I think it really could have gone either way. Bonner was in better shape but I thought Griffin was the aggressor more than Bonner. He might has landed more punches. But yeah, it could have gone either way. I was shocked it was a unanimous decision. UFC did the right thing by giving Bonner a contract. Considering that was the first fight to ever be shown on free TV, I'll bet there are a lot more UFC fans than there were last week (myself included) and it's because of that fight. Don't forget about Diego Sanchez. He was an animal in there. That kid is tough as nails.
I watched the whole series (soooo much better than The Contender) and after seeing Diego's first fight, I knew he was going to win it all. I think of all the winners, he has the most potential. Great all around fighter. Great work ethic. Great attitude. He's just a winner.
I think I am dizzy after reading the rules! Link Fouls: Butting with the head. Eye gouging of any kind. Biting. Hair pulling. Fish hooking. Groin attacks of any kind. Man! The rules have changed! 10 years ago, the only rules were no eye-gauging or groin kicks. Everything else was legal., Where's Royce Gracie when you need him?
In one of the early UFC events, some guy was on the ground with another fighter and reeled off about 5 punches right to his groin. I was in pain just watching it. I'm glad they updated that rule.
You know, I hate when people come in threads about topics that I like and they don't and just say something negative, but i'm gonna have to jump in here and agree with you. Watching those guys in nothing but biker shorts wrestling on the ground like they are playing Twister is a bit unsettling. Lance on 610 is really big in to Ultimate Fighting and he says that they have changed the rules to try to prevent the guys from just ending up on the mat on top of each other till one guy submits. That is also a big turnoff watching.
Just because it's gay p*rn for the non-outed doesn't mean I don't like it. It's just a joke we like to tell during some matches when nothing goes on except two guys laying on each other.
