OMG, this song is freaking awesome. It's like U2 from the early 80's are alive and well in 2004. The song is supposed to come out today I believe, but radio stations were playing it yesterday. KROQ was playing it back to back to back and on the hour because of the requests. I don't know about Houston radio, I'm in College Station. "Vertigo" Uno, dos, tres, catorce(catorce=14, I think this is their 14th album) Turn it up loud, captain Lights go down It's dark, the jungle is Your head can't rule your heart I'm feeling so much stronger Than I thought Your eyes are wide And though your soul It can't be bought Your mind can wander Hello, hello Hola I'm at a place called Vertigo ¿Donde esta? It's everything I wish I didn't know Except you give me something I can feel Feel The night is full of holes These bullets rip the sky Of ink with gold They twinkle As the boys play rock and roll They know that they can't dance At least they know I can sell the beats I'm asking for the check Girl with crimson nails Has Jesus 'round her neck Swinging to the music Swinging to the music Hello, hello Hola I'm at a place called Vertigo ¿Donde esta? It's everything I wish I didn't know But you give me something I can feel Feel Shot dead Shots fall Show me, yeah All of this, all of this can be yours All of this, all of this can be yours All of this, all of this can be yours Just give me what I want And no one gets hurt Hello, hello Hola We’re at a place called Vertigo ¿Donde esta? Lights go down and all I know Is that you give me something I can feel your love teaching me how Your love is teaching me how How to kneel Kneel Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I like it. I hear they are gonna have a more of the "boy" and "war" sound on this album. btw, that 5.7mb dl was fast on #3!
Do NOT post illegally downloadable songs. The site becomes vulnerable to legal issues. If you want to trade that stuff, do it via email. Posting any illegal content is a BIG TIME no-no.
Yup, because Clutch is responsible for the content on the site. If someone gets access to that through a link from here, the site could potentially be liable. I just don't want Clutch to get in trouble. He's gotten cease and desist letters from numerous places and I don't want the RIAA to be the next. Song was cool though.
Thanks for clearing that up Jeff. I guess if somebody wants the link, just email me. oski2005@gmail.com
U2 isn't my favorite band, but I would say that they are easily the most important and influential band of my lifetime. Bono rocks!
Wow... hopefully I'll hear the song soon; the lyrics look cool. (Not going to do the illegal download thing, even if my connection was fast enough to handle it.) I hope this is true about the 80's sound coming back. U2 is my favorite band anyway, and I listen to the old stuff all the time. The newer stuff may have sounded more polished, but I miss the energy and enthusiasm from records like "October". Don't get me started on "Pop" - has its moments but gets old. "All That You Can't Leave Behind" was considered a return to the old sound and everybody else liked it, but I thought it sounded anemic and just wasn't the same. I know Bono can't help having blown out his voice over the years, but I just couldn't get into the whole second half of that album. On the other hand, the more recent "Electrical Storm" was a good sign... things may be looking up. (Just a bunch of random opinions.)
I like the overall sound of the song, but the lyrics don't really do it for me. This kind of reminds me of the Tomb Raider remix of "Elevation"
I'm an old school U2 fan and I had pretty much written them off since the early 90's as having become to "pop-ish". Well, this song has restored my faith in them. It sounds raw and a bit angry...definitely their early-mid 80's sound. The lyrics could have been better, but it still rocks. Almost makes me feel like I'm 16 again...almost. I've always thought that their live version of Pride at Live Aid(???) was one of the greatest live songs (at least of my time). I'm impressed!
Ditto. They were one of my favorite bands in the mid 80's. I was all about Boy, October, War, Under A Blood Red Sky, and then The Unforgetable Fire came along and blew my mind. That's still my favorite. They slowly started to suck with every album after that. I WANT MY BAND BACK!! From what I'm reading in this thread, I need to get home and check this song out ASAP.
I need a little help setting up my media players' equalizer settings. I burned the song onto a CD and it sounded so much better on my cd player and also, when I was on campus, on a roxio media player where I haden't touched the settings. One thing I've noticed is that on my cd player and on a campus computer, I could clearly hear the part where he says "turn it up loud, captain" and the background vocals where they sing "hola" and "donde esta." I even plugged my computer speakers into my walkman to make sure it wasn't the speakers. I've got winamp4, wmp10, and iTunes.
I've got a video now, it's just shy of 6 megs, email me at my gmail account if you want it. oski2005@gmail.com It's not the official video, it's something that the british show Top of the Pops filmed in U2's studio. It's not a live performance though, that would have kicked arse. Top of the Pops has been around for a long time if I'm not mistaken, but it seems very TRL'ish now, especially since they cut the video well before the song is over. Still, it's a neat thing to watch until the real video comes out. Also, The Edge posted a little message at the fan site where I found out about the song and this video.
man......I must be totally uncool. I was right there with you until you left off the Joshua Tree. But then.....I guess an album can't be any good if it's popular.
I am a huge fan of U2, and I have been listening to the single almost non-stop trying to get a good feel for this song. Here are some of my comments: First Impression: Take the "Pop" out of "Discotheque" and put in a bit of 21st Century "Punk Rock" Pros Bono's vocals are FINALLY back. The one thing I loved about the band especially the UF days was his soaring tenor voice especially on songs like Pride and Bad. It started rapidly deteriorating IMHO from Achtung and hit its low point during Zooropa and some of Pop (love the songs, but Bono sounds awful in many of them). All that you can't leave behind was a good step towards the vocals that I fell in love with. Now this song... Bass line is kickin. I think Adam often gets overlooked, but I have always loved his stuff from Gloria on. Vintage The Edge Guitar Solo before the bridge (simple but effective) Larry, well solid as usual. Cons This single seems like a fun little song in the tradition of "Discotheque", "The Fly" and "Elevation." Nothing ground shattering especially by this band's standards. Of course, for the first single maybe they weren't aiming for that. I think it is a very promising song as an indicator for the rest of the album. I am excited about it coming out soon.
