Ok mybad, they will be playing live, but I don't know when exactly. It's supposed to be soon, I'll update when the show actually starts. They'll be playing like 4 new songs live.

I guess I should set the scene. There are contest winners who are in U2's studio in Dublin where the band will perform 4 new songs. The show is being broadcast by BBC Radio 1 and streamed on the internet. Right now, they are finishing some last minute rehearsals. Oh, and the DJ hosting the thing sounds like a massive tool. He also likes to talk before the song is over.

Right now he's walking around and describing the studio.

Oh, and they're playing some interview snippets as well.

I remember listening live when they did this for an LA station (KROQ) before ATYCLB came out. It was awesome to hear the songs first. I taped them and listened to them in my car over and over before the CD came out.

I think it's about to start now. The DJ is talking to the band now, so I'm sure they are about to play soon.

Could the DJ overhype this more?

"This is going to be the greatest night in the history of Western Civilization..."

    ;)

    I think he's gonna try.

Right now Bono is talking about how great bands always come from cities by water.

Hey Oski, did you see that Bono and the Edge are going to play the opening of the Clinton Library?

I'll be looking forward to that hitting the web -- the acoustic set the two of them did in Italy a few years ago was amazing. (Amazing version of "Ground Beneath Her Feet.")

By the way, it still might not be for a while. Didn't the DJ say at one point that he hopes U2 will start playing by 9? That's 40 more minutes...

Oh no, freudian slip, Bono was talking about how bands that should be their contemporaries seem to lose their taste for the mainstream, Oasis, Radiohead, and Coldplay(don't know about that, they are pretty damn popular). Then he was starting to name up and commers, first the Killers and then he was going to say The Razorbacks or something but he said Nickelback:eek:

Yeah, I got the time wrong, I thought 2 here was 9 there. So, it's still gonna be a while I guess.

It's kind of nice listening to the radio in another country. I've heard some good stuff, though I wish he'd name some of the bands more often. Anways, I've heard of the Kings of Leon, but I haven't listened to them before. This sounds kick ass.

Hate to say this, but I'm not terribly impressed so far.

Wow, that Song All Because of You was awesome. Miracle Drug is another one of those inspirational U2 tunes, particularly the story Bono told behind it. The song about his dad was ok. I wish they had ended with something older than Beautiful Day, though I like how changed up the lyrics there.

I'm impressed, but I guess I'm biased. The reviews have been awesome and I can see why.

Anyways, for people who missed it, I'm sure this thing was being recorded by tons of people. I'll post the best one I can find via you send later in this thread.

That's cool - I'd like to get another listen to the songs. The reviews have been so good; I probably just need to hear them a few more times.

I still think they were kind of flat for some reason. Beautiful Day sounded mailed in. Maybe they were tired or something -- the pre-release set in LA before ATYCLB came out had tons more energy.

Here it is, it's 22 megs.

On a 2nd listen, I can see what you mean about them sounding a bit flat. I doubt it'll be that way in concert though. I think they're still figuring out how to best play these songs live. I'm sure they'll be ready for SNL this Saturday.

Continuing the pattern of Oski and I being the only ones to post in the thread ...

Thanks for that link. I like Miracle Drug a lot more on the second listen. All Because of You sounded too much like Jet or something to me.

Looking forward to SNL this weekend.

Did you know that you can stream the new album on VH1.com for a preview? I'm listening to it right now...

That song Crumbs From Your Table is great, love this lyric:

Where you live should not decide
Whether you live or whether you die

Well, I listened to the VH1 stream a couple times, and the album definitely sounds better than that BBC performance.

Looking forward to picking it up next Tuesday.
