That closing run by Tiger Woods was spectacular, especially considering how his knee was acting up. The eagle put on 18 was a fitting cap on roller coaster day that started with a double-bogey on 1. It's fitting he and Westwood are in the final pairing because they are clearly the best two golfers out there. Rocco Mediate is a nice story but I don't think many people believe he can win it.
Tiger is amazing. I feel lucky to have the chance to see him play. Today's round was nothing short of legendary.
It was painful to watch Tiger grimace after hitting the second shot on the 18. But he is incredible. Two long puts for eagle, and a lucky chip in for birdie. WOW!!! His knee injury seems to be serious. I hope it does not linger.
I was at an Outback having a steak earlier and everyone was watching Tiger making his run. The guy really is amazing. He reminds me of when I was watching Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus go head to head on the tube. I would give a lot to see the three playing against each other, with all of them in their prime. A nice fantasy!
Didn't Tiger just have arthoscopic surgery? If so, he should be healed for the most part.... If not, he might have bigger issues than he is letting on... DD
dd, this is his first tournament since knee surgery, maybe he rushed it. who knows, he didn't say much about it afterwards. Got home from dinner to see his first eagle on the back nine. he really is freaking amazing. I'll be watching all day tomorrow. (deckard all the good local austin places to eat and you go to Outback? I'm ashamed )
updawg, I almost edited that in self disgust. The place is really mediocre. My wife and I were starving and there it was... the one by Target at Ben White and S. Lamar. A lot of people probably don't even know it's there. Those are the lucky ones!
Absolutely tulexan. Can you think of an athlete in any sport who delivers at such a high level EVERY time they compete? Not only delivers at a high level, but with un-freakin'-believable shots leaving everyone saying "wow". Now, add to the equation that his craft is technically most difficult sport....and that he's statistically embarassing the worlds best and shattering every record out there. I feel sorry for anyone who's not a golf fan and those folks who do follow golf, but don't recognize what we're seeing........ In my mind, Tiger is the greatest there has ever been in any sport. One other note, "Man Boobs" Mickelson shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. No matter how bad the networks (and Phil) want there to be a rivalry, it just doesn't matter. Phil is great (not a fan, but recognize the talent), but Tiger is in a league of his own. How many is he leading by if he doesn't spot the field a freakin' double at the beginnng of each round this week.
he just kept missing fairways and missing fairways... five in a row... He lucked into that chip in the 17th - it really saved his butt. Then, on 18 he actually hit the fairway... He was eyeballing that green on that par 5... I told my father-in-law "you know he's going for the green in two"... and he was... and he drained the putt for eagle. It's funny - they were interviewing Westwood, saying "you're going to be the leader after day three... or at least tied for the lead blah blah blah"... nope. leader: Tiger.
When watching Tiger, the one thing I NEVER have confidence in is his driving. He was AWFUL, especially on the back 9. It just didn't look like he would get over the hump. The lucky chip on 17 and the eagle on 18 were like consecutive lightening bolts that jarred everyone awake. Today was an example of how he can take the lead in a major and clearly not have his "A" game. Did anyone see his second nine on Friday? I tuned in right after he hit the amazing shot while standing on the cart path. He was much better than today but it wasn't as theatrical with over the tops shots (but he did have one eagle). Tiger has to close it out tomorrow for the today and yesterday to matter.
Even if he doesn't close it out due to his leg, I'll always remember watching today and yesterday - it was incredible. Tiger also burned the edge on an eagle putt earlier in the round. Does anyone else HATE watching Rocco swing? Gaaah that's painful. It just looks yippy.
can't stand rocco for some reason, don't know why (doesn't he live in dallas?) Thats got to be some major focus knowing you are going to get some knee pain yet still swinging through it and making amazing shots.
I just checked the final round tee times and they are much earlier than yesterday, which is awesome. I thought I had to choose between watching this finish up and part of Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Tigers tees off at 3:30pm.
After his start, I thought he was done almost before he began. After 5 holes, he's only one back. Amazing!
